Hi

Can anyone ID this? - found a number of them on a zoa colony. They look more purple underwater.

They are about 5mm at the base (left of photo) with a vertical tube (right of photo).

They are hard - and as it turns out, easy to chip off in one piece.

I removed them all and the colony is happy now.

Thanks!

They definitely irritate zoas. I lost a small colony of fruit loops before I realized what was causing them to stay closed. I added a bunch of bumble bee snails after that.
It’s taken a few weeks for these zoas to recover in quarantine and open up again, but hopefully they will be ok now they are back in the DT.

Hard to control them once they are in your tank. Good luck. This is the one pest we don't have a cure for yet.
