How long can it take for a browned out frag to color up?

How do they do that, as a whole, or, from the growth tips?

Anyway to hasten the process?

From my experience the only thing sps do quickly is die! Lots of light and lower nutrient levels should get rid of the brown but some guys who know a lot more than me will be along shortly.

I've had them take up to 6 months but some just stay brown. Are these lineage frags or wild/maricultured? It helps if you know the potential is there.

They were bought from AM, having originated from Cory's tank I think. Don't know any more than that.

Jeff - are these the same frags that we both got the same pieces of? If so mine haven't coloured up yet either. One of them has a slight reddish hue to it but the other one is still the same as when I got it.

With those frags in particular, if your tanks are healthy you might be looking at a month or so and the growth tips will be first to show good coloration flowed by the base then the vertical/branches.

Cory had Vivid rainbow, PC rainbow acro, and one or two others that I recall. I tried to buy one or both but we could never hook up on the deal. So yeah, be patient, the potential is there. You've been doing this far too long to realistically expect results in 2 week LOL.

I bought a fresh cut JF Terra Nova at the Nashville swap this year. It was purple when I got it but turned brown very quickly and stayed that way until the past couple of weeks. It's finally turning purple again. But it took months.

It continued to grow though. Encrusted the entire plug and is over twice the size since I bought it.

I'm meeting up with Cory tomorrow and he is going to label them all, I'll fill you guys in.

Yeah, I got this Aussie Acropora aculeus that came in kinda yellow/green. After many months, it is now taking on a purple with yellow tips look. Since it has such intense polyp extension it is hard to tell sometimes.

I figured it would be a while before the frags got used to the new tank and would likely go backwards before forwards. What's encouraging is that they haven't browned out - at least not to my eyes. The PC rainbow is the one that is still is status quo. The other frag that nobody knows what it is is looking the better of the two. Have seen good polyp extension and I feel like its colored just a little.

I got a vivid rainbow from Cory before he took his tank down. From what I've read on that coral, it will stay brown for a long time and then all of a sudden it will color up. Like some have said, I've had some corals color up in a few months and some that take 4-6 months.

Well, I hope they turn out to be something. [emoji3]

I just got a nice sized frag of terra nova a couple of weeks ago. It's faded badly. What level of lighting and flow do you have it in?

I've got it about 1/4 from bottom
High flow
Ocean revive LEDs blues 50/whites 10

Still playing with the lighting though. I've been slowly decreasing the lighting over the past month as things seem to be coloring up more and more.

Great info! Thank you! Mine is right at the top and getting a ton of light. I'll move it down tonight. I've got a 12x36w T5 all ATI bulbs. and it's probably about 8" from the light!! Way too much!

Yeah, I've had one in my tank for 3 months and it's just now starting to color up. If it's not white don't trash it.
