A couple of years ago I finally gained enough experience and confidence to take on the acro mystique and got some frags of green slimer and lokani. I have been successful and have started to expand my acro diversity. Last year I purchased a browned out frag of an unknown acro. It colored back up to green and blue but I still couldn’t identify it. Recently I moved it to a better spot with more par and flow and bingo, I can now say with confidence that the mystery frag is a skittles granulosa! I started to see white and thought it was bleaching but it turns out that it’s actually a white bodied coral! What other mystery frags have you been able to identify? I figured I’d try to start a frag rescue thread. Let’s see what’s out there in those dark little lfs corners!

The frag next to it is a Walt Disney that’s started encrusting for me.

Nice! One of my favorite things is when I get zoas(my favorite) and they're so browned out there's barely any florescents to where you can't even tell what they are, but as time goes on with 0 nitrates and better lighting/feeding, the true colors come out day by day,. Awesome acro!

Thanks! I’m dealing with an over abundance of pandoras. I wish some of them would brown out and go away!

Nice find

I recently bought a couple of sps frags of which I have no idea what they look like as colonies. They are pale and dull and hoping they turn out to something beautiful. The price was too good to pass on them.

i don’t think you meant to say 0 nitrates…
but more along the lines of low nitrates.

;)

Browns to glory as I call them.

Usually there's a bit of color to the browns.

Other times they're slightly bleached.

I have a bunch I saved. Most notable is a Birds of Paradise that looked like tiny dead palm tree mounted to a plug. I gave them $5 for it and took it home, fragged the "trunk" off and mounted it. It's now looking spectacular. I go once every couple weeks and look for unknowns like that just to see what they turn into. Last brown one is now a purple and red stag horn of some kind.

I might take a ride tomorrow and see what I can find. Might be fun to post a pic of what I get here and then add progress pics as it colors up.
