A portion of my sunset monti is completely shaded by its own mound and the angle of my rock. This portion has browned out. The frag is a few months old.

This coral has been encrusting out nicely, and continues to do so.

I assume the browning portion is because of lack of light, though I'd swear that portion of the frag initially grew out the fastest. Maybe I'm mis-remembering and/or the mound has grown up and since shaded it. Anyways, just sanity checking to see what folks would say.

@Nick Steele here's two photos, kinda crappy, but I think you can see how it has become completely shaded (kessil light above, which doesn't fill).

6 month old tank, fighting some hair algae, though algae has recently improved quite a bit.

Kind of hard to see with the dim lighting so can’t comment much. If it’s shaded then maybe move it out into the light. My understanding is that it doesn’t like intense light but it does need direct light.
