My tank is plumbed down in to my crawl space under my house and it runs about 30 feet before it comes back inside I have the pipes insulated but it has never been this cold here in the 4 years I have been here it around zero her and forecasted to get to about -15 tonight in worried that it's going to cool my tank down tonight I have already seen about .5 deg temp drop I have a space heater I'm thinking about leaving it running next to the tank tonight do you think this will help or do you think I should shut the sump down and move the heater to the tank tonight and just leave the power heads running and run a small heater to keep sump at temp? And also am I going to be at risk of the water freezing in my plumbing and cracking something. This is why I try to always have a back up heater but my backup is runningis being used now due to a heater failure this weekend any help would be great thanks guys

I would keep it running as normal. Maybe add an extra heater to the display tank if you got it. If you shut your pumps down then it is most likely your return line will freeze under your house since the water isn't moving.

If your house plumbing it under there also, then I would keep the faucets on at a trickle to avoid them from freezing as well.

Hope the weather warms up for you folks over there soon.

I've never experienced this stuff before! It was -6 here today and currently -10. Windchill was somewhere around -25. Ridiculous is all I can say! Good luck with keeping everything warm and moving...

Well it's morning and every thing looks good I lost about two degrees over night not enough to impact tank I moved my heater into my main tank and slowed the flow through the sump down by half seemed to work yes this is the craziest I have ever seen it get here as far as cold goes lol you know it's bad when you look at the temp and it's 5 degrees and you think ohh good it's warmed up

-8 here. I second what JMSKI333 wrote. For your house pipes they sell heat tape to wrap pipes. You can find it at a mobile home supply house.
