Possible for this to lose it's potency? It seems I'm chasing my alk. Yesterday I measured at 6.36 dkh,
so I dosed out the max move to 1.4 dkh per day per BRS to raise it. Trying to get to 9 but this would only raise it to 7.76. Today I measure and it's 6.597. Measured with Hanna Alkalinty PPM then converted. I have had the soda ash for quite a while as I just did a restart on my tank. Used the last 2 cups to mix a gallon yesterday. It seems I'm never going to get this up to what I need. I do 10% water change weekly and my salts alk is rated at 9. Per BRS Upon BRS analysis - hw-Marinemix Reefer contained Calcium at 445-450 ppm, Alk of 9.0 dKH, Magnesium at 1380 ppm.
My Calc was 490 after water change. Mag I havent measured since i do 10% weekly figured that covers the usage on that. The alk was 6.36 dkh after water change. My hanna, ordered the standard alk kit to verify my hanna was working and its within range. Bought a new reagent and have been using that.

102 g total volume
ph is steady at 8.02-8.04.
temp is stable 78.5

I have
2 Frogspawns, one one headed (2 inches) and the other a 2 headed branching (2 inches each head)
1 Hammer, 2 branching heads, 1 inch and 1/2 inch
1 zoa with 11 heads, 13 heads, 3 heads, all actively growing new heads
1 electric boogalo zoa from grow out contest, open but not replicating
1 candy cane, obvious signs of RTN on both heads.
1 red roses nastula, 1 inch frag grow out, coloring up but cant tell if growing.

When I dose, nothing closes up, no ill effects.

I have to order new soda ash, but i would like to solve this mystery first

Soda ash is extremely stable. It does like to pick up moisture from the air, so keep it in a closed container. Bottom line, the problem is not the soda ash.

It also looks like you have very few and small hard corals. How much do you dose and how frequently?

Appears that it is my Checker. API test kit test around 8-9 dKh. I have had the checker for awhile, at least 5 years, so maybe time to update to a new one.

Battery!
