BRS 4 stage RO/DI unit

I have the 4 stage plus unit and have had 0 tds from the day I set it up over a year ago. Time to change filters I suppose soon

Time to feel like an idiot I guess. I don't know much about the ro units. I know what one I plan to get but what is the plus unit. I don't see it.

It really just depends on how the water is where you live. One way to give you an idea is to buy a cheap 10$ tds meter on ebay and see how high it is. Where I am the tds is around 150ppm where is really low from what I've seen. The 6 stage would be better no matter what obviously just a little more expensive to change filters and what not. The more stages before your actual RO membrane the better as that is the expensive thing to change

Well I think the water is bad here in Arizona. But I could be wrong. I was thinking that if I am going to do this I might as well do it right, which is I was looking at the 6 stage. I found out the hard way not to do things half way when I first and crashed my tank so I want to do things the right way if it ends up being more money then so be it. It will be worth it.

Just make sure the one you get has at least one meter to show tds after stages so you know when your stages are exhausted by showing a tds higher than 0. That way you change out specific filters before your di or ro membrane are exhausted.

Thanks you have been very helpful. This was easier then I thought to find the information out. I figured I'd be reading through pages and pages of nonsense.

Anyways now it's time for me to search out other answers to questions I have. Thanks a bunch

If you are here in AZ don't even consider anything other than Spectrapure. They have been built and tested on AZ hard water and high TDS in Tempe for about 3 decades. They don't just lap some off the shelf components together, everything is researched, tested and developed for our area.

Ya I have heard of them I just get really confused when it comes to what I should really get and what I really need I am lost in that area. However I appreciate everyone giving me pointers. Thanks

You want the best, lowest micron rated near absolute or absolute sediment filter you can afford, 1 microns would be largest I would consider with 0.5 or even 0.2 microns being better since its purpose is to protect the billions of tiny microscopic pores in the carbon block. A 1 micron or smaller single carbon block is more than sufficient if well protected by the sediment filter. A Dow Filmtec 75 GPD RO membrane is by far the most popular choice and Spectraure starts with just that then specially treats all their membranes than subjects them to testing, either in batches or individually as with their Select series. You want a full size vertical DI capable of holding at least 20 oz of fresh resin. Spectrapure does not use prepackaged or generi resins, they custom blend all their DI resins based on thousands of hours of real world and lab testing so it is only the best, freshest available.

If you are in the hobby for the long haul then Spectrapures MaxCap series RO/DI systems are the best money can buy anywhere at any price. If you are just starting and want the best bang for your buck then their Refurbished system for $125 can't be beat.

Thanks very much. I'm just getting into saltwater and want to do things right.

If you have not already done so, check out the local Reef group AZ FRAG.
Forums - Arizona Fish Reef Aquarium Group (AZ F.R.A.G.)

Great bunch of people with similar interests and you can pick up a wealth of knowledge not to mention awesome corals and equipment for a fraction of what it would be retail. The members can also steer you in the right direction as far as RO/DI and water quality.

Love it on my 75G reserve water holding

Cool, thank you for your help it's really appreciated. I will check it out.
