I bought a new BRS 5 Stage RODI unit exactly one year ago. I noticed that after about 6 months my TDS went up to 1 then to 2. I changed out the sediment filter, the membrane and the DI Resin (which was still about 90% dark and only 10% gold) and the TDS went back to 0.

6 months later (and 1 year for the system) and the TDS is back to 2. I generally flush the membrane for about 2-3 minutes before and after each use.
My pressure is still steady at 80psi and the filter is not that dirty (see pic). I tested the chlorine with Insta-test and it read 0. The DI Resin is still about 90% dark (see pic).

I fill 2 32 gallon Brute barrels each week (one for RO and one to make SW) so 64 gallons per week (1,664 gallons every 6 months).

Anyone have any ideas? I really thought I would get much longer out of the system before having to change things out every 6 months. By the way, how much is too much TDS?

More than likely only your DI need changed. If you have an imbalance of impurities you may be degrading the anions or cations at different ratios which is why it still appears to not have color changed, but you still are registering TDS.

This should help explain in more detail.

Along with how to monitor and when to change the various filters for the system.
