BRS Biopellet Reactor - Use it or sell it?

So I have a 125G mixed reef (see build thread in my signature) and I have never run carbon dosing. My nitrates and phosphates are undetectable with an API test kit, however I have been seeing a little bit of cyano on the sandbed and hair algae in the sump fuge section. Also my glass seems to be getting a film much quicker lately. I run carbon passively in a filter bag. Currently I do not run GFO, but I have in the past. I also have a UV filter but it has not been installed for over a year and a half.

I won a BRS Biopellet Reactor Kit at the Fargo Frag Swap last January 2013 and have had it sitting in the garage since the event. I am tossing around the ideas in my head attempting to come to a conclusion whether I should use the reactor or sell the reactor... I have never carbon dosed the tank and have heard that carbon dosing can polish the water too much causing corals to go pastel or starve...

So what do you think? Keep and install or Sell the reactor?

Please vote but also comment as to why I should pick that option.

I have a friend who runs bio pellet and he has nothing but good things to say abt it. In fact he said it was TOO clean and killed some of his zoas...

I've been using my bio pellets since October. I'm running a BR 140 with brs pellets. My nitrates are not readable, but I'm pulling it offline this weekend because I feel they're not performing as expected (PO4). Just my. 02, but I believe they can be utilized, just not my style. I'd rather quit the BP and use another method (etc. Vodka) and not continue to adjust the flow or worry about clumps. Again, just my. 02.

I run a low dose half had the same probably as you no detection of anything but had some funky stuff poping up and I started with the half dose and it's clean as can be now I say start low for sure

I've run biopellets for 2 years on 2 separate tanks. They work great for nitrates but poorly for phosphates, so it depends on what your hoping to gain. They keep the water very clean.

I would run a low dose also....I am looking up at a brand new container of Ecobak pellets as I am typing. Goint to start mine as soon as I have time.

Well the reactor has been installed, Kinda... I was going to put it in when I had a fellow RRVR member stop over and say he had a JNS Alpha 2 reactor he would give me. I now have that one running in the sump. I started with a small 1/4 cup of pellets for about a week, then added another 1/4 cup. So that makes 1/2 cup total on a 125G. How much should I go to in this tank as it is a very well stocked tank.
