I now have two reactors. I am going to get some BRS carbon and GFO.

I think I am going to get the lignite carbon - small particle. It comes in 1.5 lbs, 3 lbs, and 15 lbs containers. I know the ROX is much better, but it costs almost 2.5 times as much.

I think I am going to get the GFO pellets. It comes in 1 lbs, 2 lbs, 4 lbs, and 20 lbs containers. I know BRS says use with a sock with the pellets. Janie uses the pellets. So, I thought if I bought what she uses, I would just buy a larger amount. We can share.

I am also looking at the Hanna Checker Phosphate PO4 colorimeter.

Anybody have any comments or suggestions. Anybody want to "share"?

I would like to share in the lignite, but I do not need as much as you do. How much were you planning to buy and would you split up a 5 gallon (15 lbs) container? I only need about 5 pounds to last me a while, but the 5G container rate ($75) is much better than the smaller container rates. Will enough be orderd to hit the free shipping level ($175, I think)?

Would also like to throw on a scalpel for$6.99 and some blades for $0.99 if that isn't too much trouble.

I was going to spend my money and buy (too much for me) the carbon and the GFO. The plan was to make the GFO and carbon available to club members and sell in one pound increments. I have tried this before with the club making the purchase, but there was not much "club" consensus on which type to buy. That, is why I just decided to use my own money. If you go in on the initial buy, I will “sell†it to you for the price I paid. However, the “one pound†amounts, that will be sold later – if anybody wants some, will not be as much $ as the one pound price from BRS.

I will add you to the list and add the other stuff too. Are you in any hurry?

I might wait until the new BOD is in place and see what the club wants to do then.

No hurry or immediate needs. Can wait as long as needed. Thanks.

Made the order today Scott. Should be here sometime next week.

The pellets worked for me in my reactor, but regular GFO seems to tumble a little better. As you probably know, the carbon needs longer exposure to the water, so a little less flow through the reactor - my experience.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I didn't think you wanted GFO to tumble. Tumbling causes the GFO to wear down, and slowly lose volume...putting small particles into the water column. Not only that, but if it has absorbed phosphate, and then you release it into the system, I wouldn't think that would be a good thing.

I figured that's why they suggested putting it in a sock so that it does NOT tumble. The only media that I want to tumble are in a biopellet or maybe a calcium reactor...because you want them to slowly release into the system.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
