BRS CO2 scubber media life

I have the BRS co2 scrubber and media but it only last about 5 days before it needs to be changed....
I have a skimmer rated for a 75 gallon tank so nothing massive.
I am curious how much life others are getting out of their media?

Depends how much CO2 you are scrubbing, which is how much is saturated in your home. Before I turned mine into a recirculating scrubber, I'd get around 5 days or so. Now I get several weeks out of it.

Instead of pulling in air from your room to run through the scrubber, you run the input line into a hole in the top of your skimmer. So you're scrubbing air that's already been scrubbed and injected through the skimmer. Less CO2 to scrub, makes the media last longer and raises pH better.
You do have to be careful and install a humidity chamber, otherwise you'll be pulling in air that is too wet and your scrubber media will get soaked.

I strongly recommend you add a moisture trap. They didn't have one on that setup. I didn't either when I first started mine, and had a ton of water in my scrubber chamber.

Going to take my mositer trap off my bubble magus and repurpose it. Thanks for the heads up

Check these out to create the recirculating scrubber. I set mine up to recirculate yesterday just into one of the holes on top of the skimmer. It pretty instantly improved my pH and it did not drop much overnight (went down to 7.99 instead of the 7.85 of the day before). I ordered one of these rings and think it'll make it a more organized and efficient set up. I haven't received it yet, of course, but they get good reviews.

 
Just keep in mind that if you recirculate skimmer air, you remove one of its potential benefits: oxygenation. :)
Randy - do you have a handy way to determine if oxygenation is an issue in our tank? Other than the fish gasping, of course. Would be easy enough to drop an airstone into the sump if it became an issue.

But wouldnt the airstone itself defeat the purpose of the C02 srubber in the first place?

Potentially true. Before I had the scrubber set up I used to have the air pump setting on a protected window ledge outside I only had to leave the window open enough for tubing and cord. It helped boost my ph a bit. I quit using it when I set up the scrubber though.

Unfortunately, no. The reason O2 measurement is not more common is that meters are expensive, and kits are not very precise.

Assuming the media (kalk) strips out the co2 through absorbtion and that the oxygen is absorbed into the water, eventually wouldn’t this create a slight vacuum in the skimmer and thus pull in outside air though the loosely fitting skimmer cap? Struggling to see how this would prevent oxygenization if air is being absorbed though the media and the water. Since the bubbles continue means it’s not running out of air. What am I missing?

I was wondering the same thing, but was not even sure how to ask it.... Seems to me if the PH is staying up then the CO2 is staying low but chemistry was never something I was good at.
 
Recirc is a big nono…
Saw someone with a degree(an actual degree , not a badge on r2r)
Too late to go hunting for it …
Mine lasts a week, obv no recirc
And the bigger the chamber the longer it lasts
