I have a BRS Dual GFO/Carbon Reactor that I bought used. I am using one for just GFO in the first chamber in my sump. Planning on starting carbon in the second chamber. Since the GFO needs to tumble but tumbling is very bad for carbon use as it can create carbon dust, can I disassemble the unit and change the flow direction on the second chamber so its pushing the carbon down and thus making tumbling impossible ? In my opinion, that's how it should be originally installed...??? Am I missing something or is this a better way to run it?

Thanks

Troy

Should just run as is with carbon in first and gfo in the second. Brs sells foam pieces to hold the carbon in place. The gfo is supposed to 'dance' a little bit to keep it from clumping up. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-reactor-refillable-cartridge-hard-shell.html. There's a link to the full reactor cartridge. They sell the foam pieces separately but I'm having trouble finding them on the site.

This is exactly how I re plumbed my BRS dual. Just unscrew the canister from the plate, and reverse the carbon canister.

I run any reactor I've had with carbon in it with reverse flow(pushing down into the media). You can just stuff the extra space with foam pads, but they get clogged rather quickly.

You can mix the GFO with the carbon and not have to worry about it tumbling.
