hey guys i got a brs gro reactor a couple weeks ago. i bought the high capacity gfo for it. at first i had it set up with carbon. i ran it a couple weeks and really didnt notice any change in the algea situation at all. so i did a 10g water change and i emptied the reactor. this time i just put gfo in it. i put in the reccomended amount and its tumbling a little with the flow it has now. i still see no improvements at all.

i started this because ive been battling green hair algea. months ago i got a sea hare and he cleaned the tank perfectly. i kept him till he was done then i brought him back to the store so he wouldnt die. since then ive had three other sea hares and they dont seem interested in eating the stuff at all. theres currently a sea urchin and 2 sea hares in there and it seems like the urchin is eating some cuse he spends alot of time on the algae.

the tanks been set up since maybe septish and its been doing great except for the algae issue. i feed the fish every few days and the coral maybe twice a week. its a 46g bowfront with 70lbs of live rock 40lbs of live sand. a aquamaxx hob skimmer and a whisper 60 hob filter i use to grow algea. im wondering if the whisper is hurting the tank setup?

i make my own 0tds tank water i dont have a hanna checker. when i check phosphate it appears to be at the 0 or maybe the first indicating color on the chart.

any advise would be great as im really happy with the tank but i wanna get a handle on this before it destroys my tank.

How long have you been running your GFO for? It usually takes a few weeks for a noticeable difference. Sometime you may have to change it after about a month or so if your PHOS is really high. It will exhaust your first batch of GFO pretty quickly.

What are your other readings on the tank? Salinity, Temp, DKH, MAG, Ca......
