Received my AquaticLife 48" light kit from the shipper and found box had a tear on the bottom. Opened it up and found that the fixture had minor damage (dents, and misalignment of the housing) but was still functional. Luckily I purchased the optional endcaps and this covered up most of the damage. I decided to not challenge BRS directly as they have always provided me with good customer service and I can find most anything I need in their webstore.

I believe that if the kit was double boxed it would have prevented the damage. I'm also an avid Ham radio operator and whenever I purchase from the Ham vendors everything is double-boxed to protect the equipment. BRS and other companies should follow suit to avoid any future damaged equipment and the headaches associated with that...

If you do not contact them they did not let you down. Need to give them a chance to handle it.

I have a hard time following this post.
You believe BRS has incorrectly packed something and instead of telling them directly, you take it public on a forum? And the reasoning to do that is because they have always been good and you're doing them a favor?

A 4 ft kit won't be treated well by the UPS automation machines, especially if there are a few salt buckets behind it. BRS probably did the math and figured it's cheaper to make it right for you than double box everything in case it gets damaged.

I see your point, but you're giving shipping companies WAY too much merit on the presumption they care and or value what they handle... . Especially in Orlando, I work for a company that ships scaffold nation wide and overseas for PGA tour events, and other major sports and deal with logistical matters daily. Based out of Orlando the FedEx and UPS here ship stuff overnight for us ALL the time among other major freight companies, and they aren't always the most careful folks. They're human too, and every human has their good and bad days, yet we just blame the company their employed with. Look, it sucks that your light was damaged, but double boxing isn't as "easy" as you'd think. Coming from someone who does this kind of thing for work. It sounds nice, but until you're in charge of handling inventory and shipping materials at any major business and you'll see that its not so cut and dry as one would assume.

I'm sure BRS would handle it, as would any company, because they understand mistakes happen and this world isn't a perfect place. Unfortunately. Hope you get your light Navy, and hope it grows the most stellar coral colonies for you!

I don't think that double boxing is that much of a big deal. As I said, I purchase much of my Ham radio equipment on line and it comes double boxed to better protect the product. I don't see how replacing an item is cheaper than just getting more cardboard and foam peanuts. I also ordered my T5s from them and that came in well boxed. The order was split into 3 shipments so not sure if the products came from different locations. As I said this is not so much as a gripe but more as a heads up for the company to try double boxing. As for myself although it has some dents and slightly misaligned I am happy the fixture works and my livestock will not know the difference ;) Adding @Bulk Reef Supply

Think about how much more time it would take to double box. Then think about how much that would cost in labor and in boxes. Then think about how much BRS ship and how much they charge for shipping.

If you've ever seen any kind of large scale shipping they don't usually spend very long packaging, seconds if that. I worked at a large warehouse and occasionally did packing. For items going in a shipping box it was verify the count step on the paper dispenser and once piece of tape over the box and onto the next one. Putting an extra piece of tape across the box would cause you to fall behind. Over the course of a day you'd pack countless 1000s of items and this included many high end computer components laptops ect. It actually surprised me at first but 99.x % of items would arrive in perfect shape.

Now BRS isn't quite as fast paced and I believe they spend the time check every line item but they still don't have endless amounts of time to get out endless amounts of orders. Check out the BRS tour video, you may find it interesting.
