BRS Promo Card Expiry

The codes they sent last year expired at the end of the year not never... I had 4 orders the last 3 days of 2020 to use mine up.

The cards they mailed by themselves (not in orders) earlier this year (August-ish) may not have had any expiration dates, but it's two completely different promos.

i'd just take it for what it is.. a sale with some good marketing.. brings me back to the "Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes"! I was almost a winner every time!

nah... BRS is awesome.. i shop there so much I should have my HR department setup direct deposit. but, come on.. sometimes it's ok to point things out.. like an expiration date.

Yeah. It's definitely some of their sales tactics to ramp up thier sales and it definitely worked!
As far as giveaway, I don't know what to say there but I literally placed 8 orders with them and every one hase a $10 coupon. I guess it's a luck of the draw and I understand that.

Also they have a lot of shipment delays from there warehouse due to these giveaways ( 3 of my orders and super delayed) so be careful if you have to have something urgently I would look somewhere else for the time being!!

They also charge for shipping which is ridiculous in this day and age unless you buy $50 worth of stuff and I believe they can definitely afford free shipping.( Thank you saltwateraquarium for free shipping with no minimum purchase)

I say let the rubes vent. It's a pretty benign offense in the first place.

My take: It's not like the expiration dates are hidden or anything. They are clearly printed on the front of the cards. Nor did anyone force a purchase upon anyone. Want a $10 coupon with a chance at more? Make a purchase. Seems like a great deal to me.

The amount of complaining over this I have seen on the internet is incredibly shocking. They were literally giving a $10 off code for every order regardless of what you were buying. You really think they would let people stockpile a bunch of these they could use for orders month after month?

They are trying to run a business. I thought the promo card was fun and I thought the other stuff they did was cool. Maybe you can get on a list where they send you nothing for free. Less disappointment and things to complain about.

Have you never looked at coupons before? I mean, this is pretty much how they typically work. I currently have a few in front of me from a hardware store. One is 20% only usable in a two day period and another is a $5 coupon that isn't active till 4 weeks after I got it and I have two weeks to use once it becomes active.

These coupons from BRS were actually somewhat generous because you could receive them and use them while the promotion was still going on. Most places will try to drive sales to get the coupons and then make you use the coupons after the promo is done to drive sales again.

If I go into my local Hobby Lobby then they often have a sheet of coupons by the door. They give you an offer and an expiry date. That is fine as they are, literally, free and you can take it or leave it (and the expiry is shown to you upfront).

These weren't 'coupons'. They were promotional Rewards Cards that you got following a purchase. The promotion was a minimum $10 card; no mention was made to me of expiry dates (although other people have mentioned that they new the expiry date before they placed their orders, but I'm not sure where they got that info from). I buy a gift card in a shop (not pick up coupon from a magazine) I would expect them to last a minimum of 6 months, and maybe a year or 2. If they had sent these cards out in the post to all of their preferred reefers (as they have done in the past) then I can see the similarity with the coupon example above. I don't think this situation is the same but that is just my opinion.


I'm sure everyone will be pleased that this will be my last post on this as I have made my point (and the original post was simply to highlight to people about the expiry dates). I have made my thoughts clear and everyone is free to agree or disagree with me; that is genuinely fine as far as I am concerned. I'm not going to continue to rant (any more ) for the sake of a $10 promotional card!

Of course they're trying to boost sales. Stores do it all the time.

The short answer is we have something really big coming and couldn't do both at one time. That said, we still wanted to do something for the community around the Halloween holiday. I hope that you can still find a use for the cards, even if it's for something small. Remember, there is no minimum order when using the mystery cards!

Again, I didn’t participate in this but a promo card isn’t a gift card. Most promo type things have an expiration (not always advertised up front and usually for during a non-sale period) When I think of this, I think Kohl’s Cash which is similar. Given after X purchase and expires at X time listed on the kohl’s cash.

That said, I think this delved beyond the original OP of just letting people know their promo cards have an expiration date
