@Randy Holmes-Farley

Is there really a difference in the old BRS grade Soda Ash and the new Pharma bags that cost a lot more money? I believe they have always claimed high purity grade. I want to make sure I am not just pushed into marketing term hype here. At this cost, it would make more sense if I just go down the premix route through another vendor and not having to deal with mixing all together.

I thought I would bring this up with you since you are the man behind their 2 part mix they have been selling for so many years.

As far as I understand, the previous material was quite pure but lacked a purity grading. The new material may or may not be better, but comes with an official purity specification.

I too question BRS on this and got the patented "it's medical/lab-grade formula - which inturn you should you less". Butttt! - if you use their calculator(s) the dosing instructions are EXACTLY the same. Hmmmm... I gave a sample of both formulas to University of Minnesota to compare, will follow up with results as soon as I hear back.

The "use less" that goes along with higher purity is not a valid consideration, at least from a mass perspective.

That said, I'm surprised at the level of agitation a higher purity grade is causing many folks. You can easily switch to something else if you have a better source or don't want to pay for that purity specification. :)

It amazes me how many people can't figure the second part out. Don't like it, don't buy it. Simple really

Golden Gophers for the win.

Don't get me wrong, I love BRS and having them in my backyard makes life easy, but always skeptical on products that are "new & improved" at higher cost. It's just a cost vs value comparison. To RT: if I don't like it I don't buy it cut and dry. There are dozens of other options.

Any updates on the purity from the university?

I'm still waiting on the formal reply (written analysis) but from what they told me in a phone conversation that BRS's lab grade is "finer and more concentrated than their original formula". Like I said I'm still waiting on the actual analysis results and will post when I receive them. I'm not a priority w/them obviously...

Thanks for the info. I'm in the same boat as you so I'd love to see the final analysis.
