I'm really not sure if this is the correct thread location. But here goes nothing. I have a fairly new BRS RO/DI unit. Came with a TDS meter. This is my fourth time using it since I bought it. When I first started using it the TDS meter read very low numbers on water coming in. Somewhat like at the highest 3 and that eventually went down. And coming out was 0. Today it's reading 61 in and coming out 1. I've recently had an outbreak of diatoms and cyano and think the cause was me using the high TDS meter water. My question is, would the 1 reading be ok to use? If not, what could I do to combat this? Thanks. I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

A treated water TDS of 1 is not bad really but should be 0 if the system is fairly new and used and stored properly. Always use it at least every 10-14 days, make 3-5 gallons or more at a time so it flushes itself well and store it full of wate rin a dark closet or other climate controlled space when not in use.

I assume you are using a dual inline TDS meter? One way you can double check the readings is to temporarily swap the IN and OUT probes to see if the readings remain about the same or if one is higher or lower than the other when switched. I am not a fan of the inline meters for several reasons even though I do own two of them. A good $25 handheld meter is much more accurate and more versatile. It can also test your tap water TDS which is a necessary step to troubleshoot your RO/DI system along with being able to test your ATO storage, jugs or buckets, bottled water, LFS water etc. Since the inlines depend on flow past the probe inside the tee they cannot be used portable so are stuck testing two places which is not enough.

If your RO only or IN probe is reading 61 you need to look at some things like making sure the probe isinserted all the way in the tee and rotated the correct way. Let the water run several minutes before taking TDS readings so the TDS creep common with all membranes has chance to clear itself and see what it reads. If you truly do have 61 TDS going io to the DI then your resin will not last long. It would also help to know what your Tap Water TDS is.

Thanks AZ. I think i made an error. I was taking the reading when I was flushing it. When I started to make the water, it read 1 in and 0 out. So everything is a ok :-) Thanks again.
