Brute can rodi water raises tds

Anyone ever have issues with the brute cans for their water storage? My rodi water comes out 0 tds from the filters, once it goes into the can the tds shoots up. Never used anything but ro water in this bucket since bought brand new about a year and a half ago.

Dust like when you mix salt or even house dust will make it's way into the can and raise the TDS since it is now a dissolved solid in the water. It would be almost impossible to keep it forever 0.
It is not something you need to really worry about usually.
It doesn't mean the bad stuff the filter removed to make the water is getting back into it somehow.

Any dust, pet dander, basically anything that gets into the water will cause the TDS meter to read higher. I have tested this, I use this specific cup to test my TDS when I’m making water, if I don’t rinse it out with RODI, it will get a non-zero reading. I’ve also had a dog hair fall in the cup and gotten a non-zero reading from that. So, as long as your Brute is a food-grade plastic, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Normal. Nothing to worry about. If you set a cup of RODI water on the counter and check it later, it won't read zero TDS.

I dont know Brute cans, but I'm wary of storing anything in a container not marked as BPA free food grade.

I typically use water barrels created for potable drinking water.

If it has a closed lid I don't see how would become contaminated. I've had rodi stored for months with no increase in TDS with a calibrated probe.

I’m in trouble with a similar issue. I store my RO water in a plastic container box (IKEA Samla). My RO water flowing in the container has 6 TDS. When I measure it sitting in the container, it measures at 167 (!). what the heck could happen there?
The container is made of polypropylene (PP-R). Though it seems not food-grade…
Could it really contaminate the water that bad?! I use it for 6 months, only for RO water.

Food grade is typically the preferred and yeah it very well could be leeching

The chemicals that may leach from plastic would not typically impact tds, and I agree with folks above that it is likely from salty dust, air borne droplets, or a contaminant left in the can.

For example, bpa and most plasticizers will not be detected by a tds meter because they are not charged.
