Brute container smells like detergent?

I bought a used brute container today and once I got it home i noticed it smelled like perfume or detergent. The guy I bought it from says it only ever held fresh water. My question is should I just buy a new one and should I be concerned by the smell? I have already rinsed it with water and vinegar and even some dawn soap but the smell still remains

When in doubt toss it out... or repurpose it [emoji6]
