Seems to me I read something about some Brute trash cans having some anti bacterial component a while back that you had to watch out for. Am I crazy are there certain ones that are fine and others that are not?

I've been using them for years, with no problems.

It's weird you bring this up....I bought a brute trash can to hold my rodi water....every time I added water to my tanks from the brute, I would get a weird slime over the top of my water...I couldnt figure it out, so I finally stopped using the brute and now I use a 50 gallon drum made to hold food...I haven't had that weird slime appear since I changed holding cans....I don't know if it's coincidence or if there was some kind of coating on the brute...

I know people use the brutes all the time. I need a couple for rock cooking and thought they would work nicely.

I just put some rock in a Brute can and no problems yet, only been couple days though.

Read this.

I do use them for rock cooking, or storing live rock, but after purchasing I scrub them down with Muriatic acid. I then rinse them well and fill with RO/Di water for a couple days, drain and repeat at least once. Not saying it's 100% necessary, but I rather not take any chances. For storing RO/DI water or saltwater I prefer food grade containers over brute trash cans.
