My Journey
Like many people in this hobby my experience began with freshwater. I kept goldfish, bettas, hermit crabs, and as I got older I transitioned into planted community tanks. All of the LFS's in my area were freshwater only. After seeing a saltwater tank for the first time 5 years ago, while out of town, I was blown away. The beautiful creatures, with colors I found hard believing were real. It was official, I knew I wanted a small piece of the ocean for myself. So next came the research. Purchased a few books, and talked to the owner of a Fish Store about a 1 1/2 from my home. I made my first purchase spending $550 on a 75G Tank/Stand. After my partner heard how much I was going to have to spend on this project. I quickly had to make the choice of keeping a happy home. So for nearly 3 years, this empty tank sat in my home, a crushed dream.
Fast forward after a divorce, and rebuilding my own life. I decided it was time to revisit my dream. October 2015 after looking at tanks for months, I decided I wanted a nano tank. During my research on saltwater tanks. I stumbled across http://www.nano-reef.com. After viewing the Featured Aquariums, I saw Veng's 20 Long. I knew instantly this was the tank I wanted, and it was the perfect size for my budget. Although I loved the Rimless look of Veng's, I felt like I didn't have the skill to remove mine.
I struggled with my aquascape, wasn't exactly happy but for the time being it worked. Tank was doing great, upgraded lighting about a month in. The Marineland wasn't enough par for the mixed reef I had planned. gulfsurfer101 recommended the Blackbox led's and they have been amazing. This light allows me to have no limitations on stocking, and everything looks beautiful.
