Bryopsis and raising Magnessium

I have been fighting a bryopsis outbreak for sometime now. It won the war early on and smothered out several acans and $1000's of dollars of zoas. I have since began fighting back the best I can by increasing my GFO and picking it by hand daily and it is definitely helping. I finally feel like im at least winning the battle. But i want to eradicate the algae and have read great reports of Kent M magnessium and killing bryopsis and hair algaes. Has anyone used this method before and could answer some questions? How high does it need to be in order to work? How long does it typically take to start seeing results? How lond until erradication? are there any negatives to the chemistry with this method? What is the likelihood of this harming corals - zoas - lps - sps? Do you keep Mg at that level after/if algae dies off?

Just in case anyone is having this issue. The Kent M looks like it is working. Im up to 1450 now and have dosed from 1150 to this point over the span of 7 days. The tips of the bryopsis appear to be turning the clearish color others have mentioned so I'm looking for good things over the next week.

I raised the level a little more than needed up to 1600ppm. Have seen no adverse effects from the increase in Mg. All bryopsis is now clear, and some has just vanished. Viola. I'm so excited that this is working. This has been a long time coming. It's not gone yet though!

How long do you plan to hold it at 1600 before you stop dosing Mg?

Well, it hasn't dropped since I hit the 1600 mark and that was Thursday. I having dosed and its still 1600. I'll probably leave it there for 3-4 weeks after I see none left and then bring it back down by water changes over several weeks to 1350ish.

Keep your MG up for a couple more weeks or its gonna come right back. I raised mine up once till it was gone and then let the levels fall back in place.. Then bryopsis ended up coming back.. i raised my MG up to 1800 for about a month and had no problems with my zoas, adn my tank hasnt had a spot of Bryopsis since.

Also, I never did water change once all the bryopsis was gone. I let the MG come back down overtime..

Did you use the new kent tecm or the old. I heard they reformulated it.
