Bryopsis...Bryopsis...Bryopsis

I left the original dose for about 3 weeks, then resumed my weekly water change schedule. I change about 10-12 gallons from that tank every week. I simply add about 1/2 of what the directions call for 10 gallons.
Nice. I assume you don't have carbon. The instructions say you can resume carbon after 72 hours. Doesn't carbon remove the meds? I'm confused af.

No!! The instructions say you can resume your SKIMMER after 72 hours. NO CHEMICAL FILTRATION during the course of treatment.
I removed all carbon from my canisters at the start of treatment and have not added it back since.

Just as a side note... be sure to include things like your sump, canisters, any other water reservoirs that are part of the operating marine system in your calculations for dosing.

For example: I have a standard 55g tank. I assume 10g of displacement for rock and sand. I also have a Fluval FX6 canister filter that holds 6 gallons, a Rena XP3 that holds 4 and a 10g DIY sump which holds about 7. With all of that, I dosed my original treatment for 60g. Just a touch under the actual 62g that my system runs.

After a year of treatment I was in the same boat as you, it would always come back once I ended the treatment. So after having no negative effects on any of the tank inhabitants from the fluconazole I decided in July to try it a different way. I did the same as far as the amount to dose, I kept the bags of carbon and phosgaurd in the sump. So in my experiment to attempt to get rid off the dang bryopsis for good i changed a few things. What I did was leave everything running as it normally does, left carbon and phosgaurd bags in and left the skimmer running. As usual within a week all visible signs of bryopsis were gone. A couple weeks later I added half a dose of fluconazole even though I couldn't find any bryopsis. So once a month for 3 months I continued with this regimen. 4 months after the last dose and I haven't seen any bryopsis in my tank. I'm gonna declare the war over and victorious! The best part about the whole process was I did not lose a single coral. Good luck on whatever approach you take and report back with your results.

I only run a cannister filter with no skimmer lol I don't exactly follow what your saying to do.

What I've done is remove my activated carbon and start the dosing...one dose...for my 65ag (I dose for 62G) I left it for 3 weeks, it died and then did my usual water change and added carbon back. 3 weeks after being nice and clean I spotted a few on the same rock.

So what are you saying...before the 3 weeks dose again, but half dose?

Just want this stuff gone!!

Leave everything running as you normally would including leaving the carbon in the canisters.
Do the initial 1st dose then once a month add half the dose of the initial dose. Do it for 3 or 4 months like this. Don't do any water changes during the treatment period. After the 3 or 4 months just run the tank as you normally do. Keep an eye on the spots where it always shows up 1st and the rest of the tank. If it doesn't pop back up after a month or so you should be bryopsis free. Good luck

But won't the carbon remove the medication. That part confuses me lol

I'm sure it does as that tank went without a water change in over 4.5 years. I replaced it with a 180g in July ànď there's no bryopsis.
I'm just sharing what finally worked for me.

I wish I had a bryopsis problem. God fluconazole did wonders for the small portion I had. Haven't seen it since. Now I am battling GHA. That stuff sucks.

Flux Rx should take care of GHA as easily as Bryopsis. If it is not, then likely you have a different algae issue.

Well here we go again. I did a WC and dosed the tank again. May not do a WC for 4 or 6 weeks lol. Then I'll try micro dosing once a month after that for a while...and if that doesn't kill it, it won?

i am sure this has been recommended already but i have had great success in beating/battling bryopsis with the addition of the following: sea hare (dolabella a.) , lettuce nudibranch (elysia c.), pitho crab, emerald crab.

had a single rock in my DT overrun with bryopsis at one point. added the sea hare and lettuce nudibranch and it was it cleared within two weeks (the sea hare died due to nutrient spike), lettuce nudibranch got caught in my nero 3 wavepump. i then purchased 2 pitho, and 2 emerald crabs from reefcleaners and i have not seen any sign of bryopsis in my DT (except on top of my return nozzels). currently, i have bryopsis in my fuge and it is choking out my chaeto to death. i bought an emerald crab for my fuge, and am waiting for pitho crabs to come back in stock at reefcleaners to buy another. my emerald crab would go from my fuge chamber to my skimmer chamber and hide there, so i have to constantly drag him back to the fuge section. hope that's not the case with the pitho crab i plan to buy for my fuge..

It's possible it is some kind of turf algae but when I remove it it doesn't have a thick matt or roots. I don't know.

I'm trying to lower my nutrients and weaken the crap out of it. I have a small reefugium that has been in the tank for a little bit. I'm hoping that helps. Who knows.

i believe i stole RC's last 2 pithos from you last week right after they came back in stock (i signed up for the email notification lol...) ... been waiting for a while to get a couple for my own GHA challenges. they arrive tomorrow and i can't wait to see them go to work (and hope they do!!!).

@shakacuz i spoke to soon and am eating a bowl of karma soup here... the poor pithos both arrived dead, despite UPS... of course RC is helping out to credit this... signing up for notification for when they are back in stock. hopefully we can both order a few and get them live/healthy into the tank.
