Hello everyone! a while back I noticed some green stringy algae starting to form on the base of some of my corals in qt but thought it was some sort of slow growing GHA and didn't think much of it. However now its grown out a little I'm seeing the fern like structure of bryopsis, I'm not to worried, I have some fluconazole on hand from when I treated my DT for it a while back but before I add it I wanted to make sure thats what I'm up against (still very new to reefing). Thanks in Advance!

Hard to confirm the on glass pic but the frag definitely looks like it :(
To me that doesn’t look like bryopsis. Bryopsis looks much more like a fern and is thick. Yours looks like green hair algae.
It is not bryopsis in my opinion.
+1 on plain old GHA

This is why I ask! I was in the tank doing a 4 gallon water change (10 gallon tank) in preparation for doing the fluconazole but I'll hold off for now until we're all sure. it does have the strange fern like structure I thought was unique to bryopsis, I moved the coral racks closer to the glass, does this photo show it better? there are definitely smaller hairs coming off of a main stem, If need be I'll put the phone down and whip out my 150mm macro and tripod

That does not look like bryopsis to me. The fern pattern on bryopsis is much more clearly defined IMO. I'm not an expert but I have had a tank overun with bryopsis. Twice.

Yeah not bryopsis. I have delt with it in the past as well.
Alright I guess its a really really slow growing variety of GHA. The amount you see pictured has been growing out since mid October. Looks like manual removal+ my one trochus snail would be the best line of defense. After dealing with bryopsis before in my DT I really thought I recognized it but like i said I've only been reefing for less than a year. Thanks for the help everyone!

Well, I guess I’m wrong lol

I’ve dealt with it in the past too but mine was both this and the more defined. I thought all Bryopsis has ferns. Good to know

Lots of algae has that slight fern look like the one on your plug but bryopsis is much thicker and more defined. There is no mistaking bryopsis once you see it.

Even when it’s small and just growing it will be thick and full like this pic.

You and I both! Its a poor day if you don't learn something though!

Excellent photo! Heres a much worse photo of what I beat before with fluconazole, upon closer inspection it does look different how ever its also didn't look as full as that pic.

If anybody’s still out there - I just came home from a 4-day weekend and found this in my 5-week old FOWLR tank. It looks a lot like your original pics, but everybody is telling me bryopsis. What was your conclusion and outcome?
