Did Fluconazole Kill all of your Bryopsis?

  • Yes

  • No

  • I'm treating my tank with it now.

I agree. I am not sure it is the treatment but who knows. I am making sure to note and post any changes. That way if others also have them we can see a pattern.
Nothing else has changed other than the fluconazole and removal of Chempur and purgen ( both were in need of replacing.
If loosing a few things is the price of getting rid of the GHA then so be it. My only other option was a tear down

This too is unusual. I still feel like there is something else causing these affects that we're just not catching....

So, I went to LFS and picked up some Mexican turbos to assist with the cleanup of this stuff. They are happy.

Wouldn't you know it, they had the metallic green wall hammer I promised myself I would buy when the perfect piece popped up.

Go for 10$ worth of snails leave with a big gas hammer (OK, not that big. Like 5 inches long and 1.5 across. I just wanted to say big gas).

To make it bryopsis related. I am on day 5 of fluconazol. It's starting to detach and break. Thereby, drifting around until it goes over the overflow, into a filter sock. I have had to change them out twice in the last two days.

Nice hammer!

Yes I barely made it through the end of the day each day changing my socks before they would overflow lol

Thank you! I'm more proud of that drab frogspawn in front of it though. At a not so nice LFS, they had it in the 10$ frag basket. It was all brown with the faintest hint of yellow near the mouth. It's doubled in size in two months and is starting to color up well. It looks sickely next to that hammer. But he's on his way.

After overdosing my tank (7 days of dosing flucon instead of one) i thought it would be good to provide an update.. most of my briopsis is dead after 14 days. The rest is on its way out. I lost a few sps and two fish. The other corals (zoas and lps, acans etc) looked crappy but are already starting to recover. My clam seemed completely unaffected as well as my Xenia.

Even putting a massive dose of this stuff in your tank doesn't wipe everything out. Still overall very happy even though I messed up and put in too much. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again just with the right dose.

That's great! I'm happy to hear that some are recovering :D I think it'll all die if you give it 21 days. If not, give it a rest and a water change or 2 then redose.

I I over dosed my 70 gal approximate system with 2000 mg of Fluconazole. 48 hrs in not seeing much change. Maybe a slight tip lightening in spots. Die Satan!!!!!!

All bryopsis is all gone in my tank. Had a cyano outbreak but, that is clearing up now as well. This pretty much worked a miracle for bryopsis eradication.
That's wonderful news yay!!!

Well, today is the 14th day and all Bryopsis and GHA are gone. Lost a few maze frags in the beginning because not subtracting for the rock, sand and equipment with a slight overdose but turning on skimmer after 5 days and running a tiny bit of carbon toward the end worked out to be the perfect formula for not only the Bryopsis but also ALL of the hair Algae in 14 days.
Everything is looking good except for the new aiptasia I discovered. I think I will keep going with the same water just in case there are roots as long as everything looks good. I ordered extra meds originally in case it pops up again.
Anyone know anything new that kills aiptasia? Don't know if I'm strong enough yet to hit each one with X.
Congrats! :)

I still use aiptasia x but would like to try one of those wand zappers :D

I can see small "sprigs" of bryopsis retuning in the areas that were infected the worst. Going to do a second dose of Fluconazole to do them in once and for all. Does anyone see a problem with dosing a second time?

So I need a little help, I am just about to complete 14 day of 600mg of fluconazole in a 29 gallon mixed reef tank with little to no effect on the bryopsis. It has not even turned white. Do you guys think that I might have dosed to little and if so can I just add more now? Or should I just wait longer?

Wait a little longer. Are you sure it's not green hair algae?

I don't see a problem with dosing a second time as many people have done it including myself successfully.

Congrats that's great to hear! Yeah we all seem to come up with some aptisia once the algae is gone lol
