Did Fluconazole Kill all of your Bryopsis?

  • I'm treating my tank with it now.

I believe most people are running the treatments separately to lessen the stress on the tank inhabitants.I've got a bunch of hydroids too but haven't ran a bendzole treatment yet because I've got 300+ snails that I don't want it to kill.

Definitely one of my larger fears is losing the snails. I have a feeling I should wait until flucanazol treatment is done. Any time frame you can think of before I start the fishbendzole

I would wait until everything is back to normal. After you finish the Fluconazole treatment and have had a few water changes would probably be best.

Here is my progress so far:
Day 2 Patch #1

Patch #2

Day 3
So no real changes

Day 4
Saw some changes. Tips were getting white but not everywhere.
Patch #1

Patch #2

Patch #2

Patch #1 still being persistent but totally has turned white!! The batch is also less and less!!

I'm looking forward to finally getting rid of this pest!!

I dosed again yesterday as my Bryopsis is growing again. It never died away completely the first two doses so we'll see how the third round goes. It's been two months or so since my last dose. Still happy with the results I'm getting with this stuff.

Does anyone know if all those stringy things are part of Bryopsis as well?

Day 6 (Dosed last Wednesday)

- The Good -- Bryopsis is wilted, turning white, loosing grip on structure, and withering away.

- The Bad -- Dinos which were all but gone a few days ago, are coming back with a vengeance after the death of Bryopsis.

All in all the bryopsis is going away. The Dinos came back as Bryopsis started dying -- That's when I turned the skimmer back on. Skimmer was off 5 days.

@NCreefguy -- Should I put my carbon back online for the dinos, or will that strip all medication from the water?

@rockstarta78 -- It looks like GHA / Dinos growing on Bryopsis/Algae

Great. So now I have a super algae. Mixed of dino, Bryopsis and gha. What do we call it? Its like t-rex had a love child with megladon which is breeding with a dinosaur. I'm so screwed. I'm so tempted to throw in the towel now.

Unfortunately it looks like you have some Dinos mixed in there and the Fluconazole won't do anything to them. Several Dino threads on here but I'm not sure if any of them have a true way of getting rid of it.

You can start your carbon back up,it won't strip the meds. Check your nutrients and see where your no3 and po4 levels are. Dinos usually come out when your no3 is bottomed out while your po4 is high. (not always but it can trigger them).

Sorry to re ask this but people are seeing GHA results towards the end of the cycle correct?

Correct. Sometimes it even takes more than one treatment to get rid of all the gha as well. There have been a few species of gha that Fluconazole didn't work on but for the most part it has.

If I were you I would start removing every rock that can be taken out and scrub and dip them. Then run a full treatment of Flucon for at least 21 days or so and see how things look then. I know how much of a pain all of this can be but if you tough it out,you can get through this.

@NCreefguy -- Carbon won't strip the meds from the water? I'm assuming the skimmer will though?

my po4 is creeping a bit. I could toss a tiny amount of GFO in with Carbon.
