I had a feeling Jose was the original . I too have been translating and reading his communications. Now that I understand the scientific process now. Feeling good about it.

@bios , I'm pretty sure I read from Jose something you can elaborate on. Fuconazole will kill the parasitic algae that stony corals commonly succumb to?

He seemed to be hinting at that in the translations that have been posted. I would be interested to know about that fact, as well, as the boring algae that is lethal to tridacna clams.

In human treatment resistance to the Azole class can occur when treating repeatedly. Wonder if algea will become resistant?

Question, I have a vet friend who got me 30 200mg fluconazole but they are in pill form not capsules. Can I grind them up and still use them or would you be worried it's got a different bonding agent in it?

Keep in mind that this treatment will release significant amount of nutrients back into the tank once bryopsis was melted. Tested my water recently and i am seeing no3 at 20ppm (might be higher before as mine finished treatment early january). My tank was constantly below 5ppm previously. So extra nutrient exports are required once treatment ended. Happy reefing :D

I would imagine it's possible. Cockroaches became immune to boric acid and so they came up with many different kinds poisons to kill cockroaches eventually they started becoming immune to many of those and now boric acid has been found to work again. Humans were given so much penicillin back when I was young that many became immune to penicillin or just didn't work as well so they created ampicillin and so on. I think all living plants animals and humans can become immune to something that is given to it often enough

How long would you say it takes for the treatment to be complete? If we can't see the roots in the rock crevices. Would those extra nutrients fuel gha? But also still be beneficial to our corals growth and color?

Just got Fluconazole today from https://www.payless-petproducts.com/fluconazole200.html, ordered it Sunday morning using PayPal. Trying something a little different, see if results are positive. Tank is 150g, plus sump, minus coral and rock, so total volume could be anywhere between 100-150g? Best guess would be around 130g. Removed GAC, filter socks and turned off skimmers.
Mixed two 200mg capsules in a cup of RODI and poured it in the sump for a total of 400mg Fluconazole. If volume is actually 130g that should put the dose around 3mg per gallon. Let's see if a lower dose will still work to kill the crud.
here's a few pics before the dose, will try to take daily pictures, but may not update thread daily.

I tracked my nutrients, mine only rose a small amount. However, almost all of my bryopsis was consumed. Once the Ergosterol is gone out of the bryopsis, Astrea snails, mexican turbos, and lettuce nudibranchs will eat it rapidly. I also dosed NOPOx the whole time. I have since had to increase it's amount to compensate for the absence of green algae sucking up all the NO3 and PO4. My tank has balanced pretty nicely now. I'm very pleased.

I think it is highly unlikely that a resistance will be formed, I guess it is always possible, but I think the mechanism that it is working by is an attack on the cellular level on a very vital mechanism. It's akin to a nerve gas reversing the electron transport chain (All your cells die because they consume their energy source and it happens quick). It's killing the algae as individual cells by denying them the ability to produce cellular structure. Which also is the defense mechanism of the algae against herbivores. There isn't an opportunity for evolution to occur. The algae that function with that mechanism cannot function and die. Hence Bryopsis and Derbesia species both with ergosterol succomb to Fluconazole. (I might be totally wrong, but this is my thoughts on it at this time).

Mine totally gone in 18 days. So far nothing grown back that is visible to the naked eye. It definitely will fuel other algae growth when condition permits. I am currently on high gear exporting that extra nutrients. Here are some pictures before treatment.

I removed my skimmer cup for the first few days but others have kept skimming the entire time and saw the same results.

Thanks NCreefguy. I appreciate all the questions you have answered for me in this thread.

Good point!

I too will be dosing nopox the whole time plus ordering some Live Aquaria build your own cuc to add to my existing crew on Friday :D They should arrive by Tuesday (5 days into treatment).

DIFLUCAN
DIFLUCAN Tablets contain 50, 100, 150, or 200 mg of fluconazole and the following inactive ingredients:microcrystalline cellulose, dibasic calcium phosphate anhydrous, povidone, croscarmellose sodium, FD&C Red No. 40 aluminum lake dye, and magnesium stearate.

Here are the ingredients in the fluconazole tablets. Does anyone see a concern about using these instead of the capsules? I can have my vet call in a script to my pharmacy and pick them up there.
