This is day 9 of tx, my "not Bryos " what ever it is is 95 percent gone, however, cyanobacteria is appearing for the first time. PO4 undetectable , No3 15 up from 10. Funny my Lawnmower Blenny and CUC would never touch the stuff until it started fading out.

The algae can no longer produce Ergosterol, which besides being important in the algae's structure/life, also makes it inedible. So now your CUC can eat it!

Here is my before and after success using this method. Glad I found this thread!

Awesome! Curious, did the Xenia take a hit?

Posting more of a "what would you do" question. I dosed Flucanazole on Saturday. A local coral swap is coming up this coming Sunday the 19th. Its the biggest of the year. I'm afraid to add new coral during this process. Seems like very few people have had an issue with their coral during this process. So my questions is, do I go or not? Obviously the safe and probably smart answer is no. I'm trying to gage some other opinions. I really don't want to miss it but I also don't want to buy stuff just for it do die.
I added new corals during my treatment. No issue with the new corals.

Those of you who are running a cupless skimmer. Are you getting any nasty stuff and bubbles in your sump due to it? I think this is the cause of my house smelling. Will running a cup actually remove the meds?

Wanted to post an update: my tank is now 100% bryopsis free.

While I am not advocating you deviate from the suggestions posted in the FAQ, the treatment was effective while running my skimmer and gfo 24/7. Obviously every tank is different, but if anyone else deviates from the protocol, it would be interesting to compile such data and determine the flexibility in the current protocol (or whether changes such as running gfo might alleviate possible cyano outbreaks due to massive bryopsis die off).

I had to turn my skimmer off. It was making a mess and stinking up the house. Anyone run with their skimmer off? Will it hurt anything?

Im so confident of fluconazole now, ive began moving corals into the reefer 525. Once I have them all moved in im dosing it with Fluconazole too. Dosing for 120 gallons. But there is so little left i think ill try a half dose. Say 1200 mg? This tank does have a skimmer running. Ill pull the cup since its a half dose.

Thoughts?

The FAQs were made as a general starting area for everyone who comes in and get an idea of what some of us has tried. Not everyone has followed the same path and I agree it would be nice to see what differences have been made and what their outcome was. While your tank has been successful(congrats on that :))with skimming the entire time, there were some that believe they pulled too much of the meds out of their tank early in the treatment and it didn't work well for them. As you said, each tank is different and it's easier to tell everyone to remove their skimmer cup than to say "Remove your skimmer, it may or may not work" "stop doing wc, it may or may not work" "Stop running gfo, it may or may not work" and right on down the line. There are always going to be the "Mine worked while doing this but you said not to do it" happening. We were trying to get just a base line of steps to take that would more than likely work but could be changed if you feel the need to and still possibly have the same success.

I turned mine back on after 3-4 days and it still worked. If you keep yours off the entire time, just keep an eye on your nutrients .

I needed to put my cup back on at 7 days due to having to pull out excess po4 and no3. At that time I also put gfo back online but not carbon. For those that need to use carbon I don't think carbon has any effect on it. And I say that because of studies that I read where they tried to pull this out of lakes using carbon. Therefore I don't believe carbon needs to be taken offline. I don't think running gfo affects it either but you don't want to strip your tank of completely so I think whether you use that or not should be determined by how high your po4 is. At the moment my skimmer is really pulling out some dark nasty stuff LOL. I do think that it might slow progress down a little.

Edit (sheesh, half of my reply disappeared)

I think the only way to remove this medication from the system is by use of the skimmer. So if you're running your skimmer too soon before the algae has a chance to soak up all the meds yes I believe you can pull out meds with it and make it less effective.

I agree with you on your half day so I think it should be fine in your situation.

Unless you're trying to pull outside oxygen in using your skimmer for CO2 reduction I don't think turning your skimmer off completely will harm anything

Its worked great on the turf/hair algae in my pico. Almost all better!

Well its amazing news for all I have now are byropsis , turf and GHA .. Hopefully one dose and can send most of these ******* to hell forever !!! :@
Also, will have to run GFO as I feed my wrasses and anthias a lot and may be skimmer will be offline for 2 days . No carbon though ..
Will see how it goes .

Abhishek

Yes I think one day with no cup.. at least give time for the algae to soak the medication into it before running the skimmer. I also think it depends on the degree of growth. Some people have it really really bad where is others is low-to-moderate

Mine is very low as its just started to appear . I have been keeping my magnesium over 1500 which might have stalled its growth combined with microscrubbing every night .

Abhishek
