Is there enough data to update the FAQ's sheet, or shall we wait for the studies? I want to see how well it works as a preventative. My 525xl now has rock with some of the bryopsis stubs. Fingers crossed i can make it disappear in this new tank!

I guess we will wait for some tests. I think that we have a good base line down but it's definitely not set in stone. We still don't know an effective minimum dose but I'm not sure if we really can. Some are having success with a lesser dose but some are not. I'm still hoping that @twilliard comes back and says that he mixed Fluconazole and something else(not bleach) and it kills dinos. :D

I agree.

So is Twillard running tests to kill dinos as well? That would push "amazing" over the top if it can!

Oh I keep meaning to mention...

I think the type and amount of cuc also makes an impact on how fast it vanishes. I really don't have as much in my 180 as I should because of previously high magnesium killing much of the snail population off. I also feel like once I added some Mexican turbos and trochus snails it disappeared faster.

7 capsules in today... fingers crossed

Yeah I think he has a thread going on killing dinos right now. I'm not sure how "reef safe" or "fish safe" it is but I think it does kill dinos.

I made a discovery... or I confirmed my suspicion! Don't pull the algae after you begin treatment! If you want to help it out you can pull all the thickest, longest locations before treatment then leave it alone.

It seems that the algae soaks up the meds from the tips and slowly sends it to the roots. If you pull it during treatment before it has a chance to reach the roots it will take much longer to die and you may even have to retreat to kill it off completely. I did this in a few areas and those are the areas taking longer to disappear than a nice thickly matted area that I didn't pull. Has anyone else noticed what I have?
That sounds exactly the opposite of the weed killer I put on my lawns,, somebody needs to write Home Depot a letter.. have you been spot treating it?

Haha, no. The meds are broadcast in the tank. The point of this post was a test to see what would happen if we tried to "help it along" by pulling it as it was dieing. It was an experiment. Through this experiment I learned that it's better to leave it alone once it starts soaking up the medication from the water. It takes time for the medication to reach the root of the plant. Because that's what Algae is it's a plant. If one really wants to remove it quickly and they have a ton of long algae they should remove what they can before treatment

I am in the separation process currently. Seems this powder has 2 large molecules present. Breaking this down takes some time but unfortunately I do not have the spectrometer to ID the molecules.

I left my skimmer on throughout the treatment. Also left 1 stock carbon filter from my emperor 400.

I did one wc of 5 gallons with 4 scoops of .05 of flucon.

Green hair is slowly but surely going away.

The best side effect of the treatment is the underline "blue pill effect" your corals get From all those extra nutrients! Ha ha
White tips everywhere, encrusted frags, and amazing polyp extension!!

If I continue running my ATS, will I experience any other problems above just wiping out the algae growing on it?

Well this makes me wonder Byropsis is not that bad after all especially when its dieing. Higher nutrients drive the nitrates in the water providing nutrients to sps . If only we could control and harvest it every day so as to maintain a steady death thus providing nutrients and keeping nitrates below 10, it will be so amazing :D

I can see why some people have voted for Byropsis . The vote should have said "Dead Byropsis - what not to like " :D:D:D

Abhishek

1/2 doses didn't touch it in my 45g so far that I can tell. I put some hungry cuc in and they are most of what I had. Maybe it just made it tasty for them. Lol

I believe it does make it more appealing to them my CUC and tangs would never touch the stuff now they are grazing like crazy

Most likely it will wipe out the algae in your scrubber. Can you move it to a 5 gallon bucket to keep it alive?
