Did Fluconazole Kill all of your Bryopsis?

  • Yes

  • No

  • I'm treating my tank with it now.

  • I love Bryopsis and I'm mad that everyone is killing it.

On a side note does anyone know what the daisy looking polyps are around the base and on the rock that the gorgonian is on?
To me their zoanthids (Zoas) or platty's but I could be wrong.

lol,
But there's about a million colors, and I have no clue what your polyp color "Name" is.

I have zoas and my royal urchin carriers them around for camouflage. In the end he's like "Johnny Apple Seed" :)

Looks like baby cloves to me. Quite invasive if life is good in there.

Well I dosed tonight also got the new lights on today! Roughly 50g system I dosed 5 200mg tabs so 1,000mg. Did a water change, pulled as much as I could, let things settle then poured it in about 10min before lights out, I wanted to be able to watch for any instant effects on my fish/corals for at least a few min because Im always nervous about putting stuff in my tanks.

I used 10mg per gallon in a new tank with very little bryopsis and it didn't kill all of it. And I mean a VERY small amount of bryopsis. Definitely need the 20mg per gallon.
Yeah, I got home this morning and looked at the aquarium that I was purposely avoiding. I am absolutely overrun with this stuff. the full 20mg per is going in. I am still contemplating dissolving it in a days dose of vodka. but, I'll probably also avoid any type of maintenance dose as well. Its time to kill this junk and enjoy my setup. As it is, it makes me sick to look at it.

I think we all understand how you feel ;) Pull what you can 1st. And maintenance dosing of vodka shouldn't be a problem. Just don't mix them together.

A couple before Bryopsis photos:

Front side, both corners had a small amount I had decided was GHA so I took them out and scrubbed with a tooth brush in WC water.

1 week later
How it looked 12 hours ago: It looks like GHA. If I had taken Macros to get down on top of this stuff you would see the structure of each patch. very clearly bryopsis. But, its so dense that it just looks like a massive mat. There are 6" pieces of this stuff in some places. just long flowing fields of bryopsis.
(if anybody wants to name that monti frag I am curious as to the name of it. It has the tiniest little purple polyps)

The difference between my three mixed tanks of 20 years ago and now:
Then: First 5 photos metal h & vho lightning, no electronics, simple/ no hair Algae ever. Water perfect
Now: LED lighting, LPS & Zoa only, fancy things electric, not perfect water, complicated/full of hair Algae except finally killed today. Last picture shows it is only in a mass of Palys and Zoas now and going fast. Thank you!
Great news! I'm happy for you!

It must have been still lingering around during your initial treatment. Another treatment should get rid of it.

Yes I am still going to say this is a success, I had quite a bit of it and that is the ONLY strand I saw. I just ordered more meds last night. I think I am going to treat for the Hydroids first though then another batch of the meds. This way if any more is going to grow it grows a little so it can absorbe the meds.

I did notice as my gha died my hydroids are reproducing like never before. I may have to medicate for them next.

OK my "drugs" arrived today ( boy that was quick shipping) now to guesimate just how much water is in my 29 biocube. Is there any rule of thumb on water volume with rocks and sand? I assume I should do a water change and vacuum out as much GHA as I can before treating, take the Reactor off line (GFO) and treat, wait 21 days see what happens and do another water change? At least that is what I get out of reading 130+ pages on this thread
