Ill be dosing this to get my green hair algae under control in my 13.5G nano tank. I do have a Rose Anemone and a skimmer. Do I take the skimmer offline or just remove the cup and have it run? I will also be removing my carbon and leaving my Chaeto in one of the chambers.

skimmer running... ideally cup with the cup off or drain open, you're just trying to remove the med by not skimming it out. as for how long? as long as you can tolerate in my experience. i went cup off and found it foamed my sump out pretty bad. try at least for 3-5 days so it sets in but longer is better imo.
also, gha puts up a pretty good fight so it's not unusual for the process to take 3+ weeks.

Has anyone tried spot treating a patch of bryopsis? I have had one patch come back and was wondering if I hit it with 200mg in some rodi and turkey baste it directly onto the patch versus another whole treatment. Would it work?

When I started my studies on the content of ergosterol in green algae, after observing the effect of fluconazole on the algae in my aquarium (2013/2014), I found that some algae have more than one route of synthesis in their metabolism for the production of ergosterol. .. this has made me think that an underdosing of fluconazole may allow algae to activate an alternative pathway, and allow it to survive. With this in mind, and after making sure there would be no damage to the aquarium animals, I opted for the single dose treatment, in a dosage sufficient to block the preferred route of synthesis, "without there being time for the alga to using alternative ways ". The first dose I worked on was 150 mg / 30 liters and, finding some resistance in the alga Derbésia sp., I increased the dosage to 9 mg / liter, with success.

Evolutionarily conserved Δ25(27)-olefin ergosterol biosynthesis pathway in the alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

There is a close relationship between ergosterol synthesis pathways and allelochemical diterpenoids that inhibit herbivory, so Bryopsis sp. and Derbésia sp., which are generally not attacked by herbivores, are then attacked by herbivores under the effect of fluconazole.

Best regards
So I'm fairly sure it is derbesia I'm fighting. 9mg per liter = 34mg per gallon. 34x 360g = about 12,200mg. I bought a 12,000mg bottle I would think that should suffice. Is that correct? I plan to start this tomorrow.

Yes, the calculation is correct.

Remember to remove the skimmer cup and activated charcoal, and if it has a UV filter, it must be turned off.
The time required for action on Derbésia is greater than for Bryopsis, close to 3 weeks or slightly longer.

Do you guys think this will work for gelidium algea?

Do you guys think this is some type of Bryopsis?

I have never seen this before I 'got' it. It is rather fan shaped and nothing I have seen will eat it.

Does that infest a tank like Bryopsis? Does anything eat it? Best to just kill it off with this treatment?

Very difficult to tell what that is from the picture. Maybe pull off one piece and put it next to the glass for a close up?

Hi. Just wondering if anything has changed in the last six months with the different brands of Fluc. Is there a more preferred brand than payless pet products? This is where I bought it last time and wondered what the consensus is now. I heard of a couple others but wanted to make sure this is whats going on now before I buy more.
Thanks

I guess what I'm trying to say is there any difference between payless pets and Reef HD? I haven't tried the later but wondered if Payless is still popular around here? Just wanting to re-order.

For information only, fluconazole is already dissolved in injectable (intravenous) form, the carrier of which is water with 0.9% sodium chloride (saline solution), sold in plastic bottles up to 400 mg / 200 ml in solution 0.9% sodium chloride, suitable for human or veterinary use.

In my opinion, this aqueous vehicle with sodium chloride is much less likely to change the parameters of the tank and the results of the application, and it is much simpler to adjust the dose to the actual volume of the tank than with the formulations in tablets or capsules.

I suppose that in this pharmaceutical form it might be possible to define with much more precision and reproducibility the minimum dose required to control the "difficult algae", allowing the least possible interference in tank balance.

Best Regards.

@Jose Mayo. Id love to go this route and try this out. Can I purchase this without a prescription somewhere in the states? It would be great to get the water soluble fluc and not the pills as you mentioned.

I do not know how it is in the United States, the drug trade. In Brazil, where I work, antifungal medications can be purchased without a prescription and injectable drugs can be purchased from hospital providers.

Best regards

Wow! Thats great Jose. Although I think thats not available in the United States without a prescription. Bummer!:( I think here in the states I might be relegated to buying the cheap Chinese-Philippines stuff that I bought last time for my fish. I'd love to get pharmaceutical grade made here in Illinois but it probably won't be an option. I think all of this stuff is the same for me just re-formulated into different brands and coming from the same un-regulated source.;Nailbiting

@Carlos Danger If you go to a local veterinarian you may be able to get a prescription for it
I tried this at my vets... They acted like I was asking for plutonium for my flux capacitor. They were totally unhelpful and referred me to the high end LFS (the one no-one can afford in the ritch neighborhood who I had been to in the past and was unimpressed cause the rich kids working there were high as kites).
If there is a vet near you that sees exotics, you may call them and consult with them. But my local vet has (self admittedly) absolutely no experience or knowledge about fish tanks.

The flux capacitor thing cracked me up.

Funny :-)
It all depends on the Vet, I got mine through Fishlife

I know my Vet very well and he would prescribe it to me as it's just a medication for Marine fish.

I'm on the 2nd day of 2nd application for a very stubborn patch. 1st attempt, I didn't get it all. it's deep into the rock and was pretty thick patch.

Hoping this go around will get it completely.
