1st 3 pics are from day 1 when first dosed, 2nd two pics are just now 3.5 days in, all i can say is amazing. Corals and fish are all normal. I have 1 question, would it be ok to get my skimmer skimming by tommorrow?

In some reports, early treatment disruption probably resulted in Bryopsis returning a few months later and in the same places, perhaps due to rhizosides that remained viable in the intimacy of the rock ... I would have more patience and wait 14 days before to return with the cup of the skimmer, even if it was necessary to perform some partial water exchange, replacing the medication in the exchange water, if the parameters changed much.

These are the instructions that came with the fluconazole. I was going to do one 500mg dose (25 gallons of water) and put 1/4 tablet (50mg) in the water change bucket (5 gallons).

Why does this say to keep dosing? They came in tablet form so I had to grind them up to a powder. I would not think that would matter.

I would disregard those instructions like i did with the ones on the bottle of capsules i got and follow the directions of the op. I dont have the bottle in front of me but mine where even different from yours.

Dosed the tank today. The picture doesn't do the GHA justice. Look at the right side (you can't even see the rocks), the back, and the left front. I'd let it run it's course but it is starting to choke out the corals. I'll be updating. Wish me luck.

These instructions apply to treatment for fungi, in fish.

For the treatment of algae it is enough to dose once, with 20 mg / gallon, according to the already established protocol.

Ok, after the first day I lost 1 coral. It was my night stalker/garf bonsai. It was doing....... OK but the dead spots were covered by algae. Everything else seems to be OK.

I think that it is a bit naive to think that any medication will have no effect on the livestock. Maybe my bonsai was already on the way out and the meds pushed it over the edge.

Anyway, the very expensive stuff (big acan, trachyphyllia) and fish/inverts seem fine.

I'll keep you posted

Didnt take any new pics since i dont see any bryopsis where it was! this is day 5! None of the inhabitants of the tank have been affected other than the bryopsis!

Ok yesterday was day 8, visible signs of bryopsis have completly disappeared but I started noticing a couple of my small colonies/frags completely browning or stn'n on a few other's, these are all acros. So yesterday i put my carbon back in and did a 20 gallon water change. Is this enough to remove the fluconazole or should i do another 20G water change in a few days? The treatment worked great on the bryopsis but i dont believe it wasnt the cause of some of the acros having these issues. Here are some pics of the acros before treatment and by day 8 of treatment.

Yes, activated carbon removes fluconazole quickly, but check also the other parameters and try to find the real cause of the problems; Fluconazole has been tested thousands of times and with corals of all kinds, even at doses much higher than usually used and in very large and well-stocked tanks, with no problems reported in corals.

Ya was checking all params daily during treatment, and they where all within what they normally are. I have a ton of different kinds of corals and only the ones showing signs of change where the ones I pictured. Knowing how some corals can be a little fickle to small changes I'm thinking that's all it was but I wanted to get the tank back to normal as quick as possible versus just waiting any longer. Since I only went 8 days with full treatment it will be a good test to see if the bryopsis returns in the near future. Will post an update if I see it growing again but I have a feeling since I didn't have an infestation to begin with I think the stuff is toast, time will tell. I am thrilled how quickly the treatment worked.

It is not excluded that in very particular conditions fluconazole may be the small thing that causes the great imbalance (adverse effects happen), but because it is not customary and because it is not a particular coral that responds poorly fluconazole, which in theory should be detected more often over the many times fluconazole has been used, it seems prudent to look at other possible agents that may be causing these adverse responses, so that they can be identified and we can fight them.

The only thing I changed during treatment was removing the carbon that I have in the sump 24/7 and removing the cup on the skimmer. Also I do have a lot of fish so I was feeding them a few less cubes during that time. Maybe those few things were just enough to affect a few of the corals over the 8 days. I have no idea but I'm not gonna loose any sleep over it.

Over several months I have done this procedure. After the 14-21 day mark, my tank is pretty and all is well.
For a month or so, if not a shorter time frame.
After the month, the Bry all comes back, slowly but surely. It comes back stronger than before, as well as in new places.

I have continued to dose after this happens. It's an ongoing thing for a temporary clean tank.

Does anyone else run in to this issue? The Flucon definitely works, but doesn't get rid of the issue for good. For me anyhow
And yes, I have done treatments back to back, and had same result. I have also done treatments, back to back to back. same result with the month later, its all back

I'm at the 20 day mark and I wish that I could say all the GHA is gone. I'd say maybe 40-50% is gone. The rest isn't as thick as it was before, because I can see the rocks through it. I know that GHA is more stubborn, but is this normal?

If it makes sense, I might actually have more growth. I didn't really have any in the sand, but now I have patches. Maybe it is falling off of the rocks and getting stuck in the sand? I added another half dose to the tank to try to take the upper hand.

I contacted the company Reef HD which commercially sells the stuff because I had a question about their label and adding medication in WC water. This was their response :

"Thank you for your interest, our labels have changed quite a bit since the Algae Buster labels, I've attached our newest one.

You want to remove carbon or any non-phosguard type media for the entire 2 weeks. Phosban can be used after 3 days, and the skimmer can be turned back on then as well.

We recommend not doing a water change for 3 weeks, and have not tested adding new medication in with new water. My guess is that it would be ok since you are replenishing the medication, although you may want to do a double dose in the new water just in case.

It would be a good idea to turn off the skimmer for 3 days after the water change if you are adding more medication since it can take a long time to dissolve and the skimmer can pull it out before it has a chance to.

We have tested up to 10x dosage and have never seen any issues. If you have any other questions please feel free to let me know, thanks!"
