As you can see there is a lot of green in there that is giving me some problems.
I cycled my tank using pure ammonia and it cycled very fast (partially because I cooked my dry rock for a few weeks with 10lb of live so it cycled some while curing). I have 40lb of BRS pukani, 50lb of reefsaver, and ~10lb of live rock from a local reefer. I cured all the dry rock by bleaching it for 24hrs then doing an acid bath. Once all of the bleach and acid was removed I cured it in a Brute with the 10lb of live rock doe about 2 weeks continually testing for phosphates.
Here are my current water parameters as of about 20min ago:
Salinity (Refractometer): 1.026
Alk (Red Sea): 7.8
Ca (Red Sea): 410
Mg (Red Sea): 1320
Ammonia (API): 0
Nitrite (API): 0
Nitrate (API): 10
Phosphates (Salifert): 0
pH (Probe): 7.9
My lighting is a DIY RapidLED build and I run it on an APEX controller so that it mimics the reef tables on the APEX.
I have added the CUC after being ammonia free for about a week. I have IDed most of the algae I think. There is a tiny bit of cyano, some green film, and there was diatoms but they died back/got eaten. The big chunks of green are what concern me. I think it is bryopsis (like 90% sure) and I have read about how it can be a nightmare to fight.
Here is a pic of the algae:
In my research I found a thread about how raising Mg levels can help kill the bryopsis so I ordered the 1gal jug of Tech M and it is on its way. My question is, how does this go as a long term solution and is this outbreak of bryopsis a passing thing that comes with a new tank? I have not really been feeding the tank at all (I only put a pinch of food in about a week ago to test for an ammonia spike), I have a ball of cheato in the sump, and I am skimming and pulling some nasty funk out. Is there anything else I can do at the moment to fight this?
I don't really want to add anything to the tank until I get this under control.
mine was my led lights were to intense and close. Just my .02
