So my Bryopsis outbreak has laughed in the face of Kent TechM. My last outlet is to take each rock out and soak in H202. Should I go through the hassle or just throw all the live rock out and start over?

A Sea Hare sounds in order. A lot easier. Its just watching out for when there is little to no bryopsis or algae for him to eat that he doesn't die off.

Your mag has to be over 1700. And at that for over 2 weeks. As well as a manual removal.

You n3d to look at the root of the algea. Where a4 your parameters at. I guarantee that your getting false readings.. You need to test at night when the algea is at its weakest point. Get your water to the most pristine your can get it and also bump your cleanup crew. Persistence is key with this algea

Bryopsis? Lowing nutrients helps but they are very resistant in low nutrient systems so a LNS does not always work.

46g, the best solution is Kent's TechM. TechM is a magnesium supplement that has an impurity in it that is deadly to bryopsis. Often it is assumed that the Mg is doing the killing but that is not the case. I have fought bryopsis for a long time in several tank and this is the only known "bottled cure". Here is the directions.

1. Buy 3 16oz bottles of Kent TechM (no other brand will do)
2. Do a 20% water change.
2a. If the bryopsis is high in the tank (on overflows of pumps) and is exposed while you are removing the water, pour some TechM on the bryopsis if possible and then add new water)
3. Use one entire bottle of TechM... all of it. Save the other bottles for two weeks. Within the next two weeks you will see bryopsis dissolve slowly.
4. After 2 weeks, do a 20g water change and add another bottle of TechM to the tank.
5. After another 2 weeks (4 weeks total) do a WC and then add the last bottle. You should be good after that. You need to keep nutrients down by not over feeding and doing quality water changes using NO3 and PO4 free RO/DI water. If you start to see any bryopsis spurt back up... (once fish stores have it, it is easily reintroduced back into the home aquarium) have TechM ready and dose a bottle immediately. This is completely reef safe as I have done this in my SPS systems more than I would have liked.

Urchin or Sea Hare, Done. Why waste time on messing with Chemicals when you can do it naturally. Purple Urchins will devour that.

Which also grows back if you maintain your tank right. I'd rather have the Bryopsis gone and lose some coralline then have parameters all over the place. To some people Coralline is a nuisance also.

Thanks for the video. I ended up pulling the rocks out for a quick soak in H202. Looks like it worked for the short term. Now concentrating on water quality. I have Kent TechM and will try again if the Bryopsis returns.

You'll notice in 2-3 days if the Tech M is working......I only raised mine to 1500 and I could see it beating the bryopsis that I had. I then took it to 1700 and let it sit for a bit.

Testing like this is good because if it isn't working (some resistant strains out there), no reason to blow the MG levels up.
