Hi Cole,

I saw you asked about this prior.

I think the best bet as mentioned in other threads is to first look to control your nutrients. Have you tested you water to know where your numbers are at? You may want to adjust you maintenance, skimming, feeding, start GFO or Rowaphos, etc.

To battle what is already there then Flux would be the best bet. If you don’t get a handle on where your issue is coming from you will be back in the same boat (or fish tank;)). Also having a good clean up crew helps as well as a proper lighting schedule once it is under control

For bropsis. . . pull as much as you can by hand as the invasion is at the roots of the algae. Reduce or turn off white lights. Add either Fluconasal (flux) or liquid vibrant dosing at 80% of the recommended dosage.

I hear that flux does work however there is a chance it can harm certain coral like my gorgonian so use only as a last resort reducing water nutrients will be good for tank overall but will not do anything to rid your tank of bryopsis once it's established it has the ability to break down food bypassing the nutrient cycle completely lettuce slugs flordia ceriths and dobabella sea hares are all known to eat it have some comming tommarow for this exact reason bryopsis is probly one of the worst things you can get in my opinion pulling it out by hand helps but like said before the roots will still be there so it'll come right back sea hares will trim it flordia cerith will keep it short and lettuce slugs will kill the root system as they don't really eat it they suck out the inside leaving it a husk to die good luck hope you get it taken care of

I’m sounding like a broken record, I know.
But I had seventy gallons of bryopsis misery for years.
I tried the high magnesium method, the ultra low nitrogen compound method and even the blackout method. All of these caused stress to bryopsis, but not elimination.

Within two months of using Vibrant, ALL bryopsis, bubble algae (and cheato) were completely gone and never returned.

Any idea if vibrant will hurt gorgonians as its my main concern the bryopsis I have dosent really burt anything at all to be honest just looks bad so if always used natural control methods its a purple photosynthetic gorgonian that if had for almost 8 months and has over doubled in size and is from the original one I had in my old tank the my kid killed got a frag from a friend I gave a frag to years ago

I use no simp no skimmer. Tap water and reef crystals.

Ive had a 30g 60g 20g and 135 reef. The ONLY time i have algae issue. Is when the tank is new.. like 0-5 months new. Once the tank ages and you have the proper clean up crew i have almost 0 algae. Other than encrusting stuff or diatoms on the glass

Bryopsis is a different breed of beast I have 0 nutrient issues also this is the stuff made of nightmares been reefing 15 years and not the first time iv ran accrossed it just hope you never get it in your tank

also a regular clean up crew will not touch bryopsis you have to get a certain type and even then it's hit or miss know eaters

Dobabella sea hare(hope I spelled the right)
Flordia cerith
Lettuce slugs(primary food source for them as these nudis specialize in eating it as long as you get the correct one) but they like to commit suicide in wavemaker pumps even with protective screens

There are a few fish but they are very hit or miss so will not list them

Other then that nothing will touch it that I know of and it also has the ability to break down food it catches itself bypassing the regular nutrient cycle completely

Hello sorry to bother you another member sent me in your direction iv been battling bryopis via natural means for awhile now it always comes back I don't mind the battle as its not actually hurting anything just looks bad and with what I call meds route flux etc iv found reports of that style hurting gorgonians of which is my main concern I have a purple photosynthetic gorgonian that is a frag of the one I gave a friend before my kid killed my old tank wont talk about that iv had it for almost 8 months now and it has doubled in size and am not willing to risk it I was pointed in your direction and was told you may be looking for people with bryopsis to try some methods of elimination tank as follows

1 gorge
2 flordia ricordias
3 zoas
4 palys
1 finger leather
Yellow polys
Fireworks clove polyps

A few small fish and a shrimp

Control methods
Dobrabella sea hare a few of us pass around for trimming it short
Flordia ceriths to keep it short
Lettuce slugs to kill it off (new adition)
Water changes
Trim by hand remove via micron filter pad
Blowing out the food it catches daily with a baster so its cant use that to feed off of

Background 15 years of experience reef keeping so I do know what I'm doing and it is not caused by a current nutrient problem it was caused by a fish dying in the rockwork a month or so ago short term spike that has since been corrected its always been in the tank but never had a chance to take hold controlled via nutrient export untill now( learn new stuff everyday)
Its a 32 led biocube and as stated will not try anything that will hurt the gorg but am open to suggestions and I have nothing but time so not an issue there(other then taking care of newborn) I would perfer to rid my tank of it as opposed to just suppressing it as I have always done it'll go visibly away after my current control method but the next time somthing dies I cant get out it'll be back and I'll have to start all over again this prosses

Thanks for your time
Ps will send pics when the lights come back on tommarow if needed

Dose at 80% of recommended. Was safe for me

That's the message I was trying to send but may be better for everyone to see in case I or you come up with somthing that can help everyone and here's a pics so you can see its bryopsis as after today it will be nonvisable cuc comes today and sea hare will make quick work of it

Reef flux killed several of my acros the first time I used it in my old build. Second time I used it in the same tank and no acro deaths. I controlled phosphates both times. Changed literally nothing. Dunno.

So what I may end up doing is buying a new holding tank as one I currently have has had other meds in it and dont want to scew the results fraging the gorg about time to bonsi it anyway and placing into the new holding tank once it has grown alittle and recovered try the vibrant to see what effects it has I want to eliminate it cuz right now I can't give any of the frags away for fear of giving someone else bryopsis I got it in on the live rock go figure but thats how these things go
