Can't see in your pics but if you decide to treat I used Furan 2 and metronidazole on mine, but I think it was the Furan that worked b/c I only used the metronidazole for a couple days. He has survived one month and one day today. We are setting up a species tank for him, I think you and I both posted on another thread. Here is how he looked...

Eventually the tail eroded completely away....

It's almost healed now.

It's hard to see in the photos, but it could certainly be some sort of bacterial infection.

Also, I've seen velvet leave discoloration similar to that as well.

Does he have any other symptoms? Scratching, heavy breathing, swimming into flow, etc?

No he doesn't do any of that he just hangs in his spot in very front of tank lol and spy around he eats voraciously his behavior is normal from what I've read no scratching or rolling

How long did your guy take to make a recovery and how was his behavior when it first happened

I will try to get better photos but my tank has bacteria outbreak

I cannot tell anything from the photos, what other fish are in the tank? Any hiding from light? Flashing? Scratching? Cryptic behavior? Swimming in to powerheads? (Any tankmates)

Do you have a QT tank you could use, or set one up?

Antibiotics need to be administered in a hospital tank, and if its something more (velvet) you'll need copper as well.

I have two clowns two chromis and a yellow coris wrasse and one hermit they all get along peacefully and no he doesn't hide from light he's in one of the brightest spots and he acts completely normal watching outside the tank till it's time to feed then he's very active

I'm looking at getting a 30 gal for qt or is that too large?

I treated with furan2 according to package directions, which I think is 4 days. When the spots first appeared he stopped eating. When I moved him from my cycled QT to a hospital tank he stopped burrowing and for a couple days swam around kind of frantically. By the last day of the furan he was eating again, which is why i decided against a second round. It has taken a while for the tissue to grow back, of course, and it hasn't completely healed yet. It took another week for his burrowing behavior to resume.

His behavior and eating is perfectly normal but he is just missing spots on one side

I would ready antibiotics to be safe. I might simply observe, but obviously the risk of that is that it can take several days for antibiotics to do a whole lot with fish, so on occasion it can be too late to treat for serious infections.

That said, sometimes "discretion is the better part of valor"
