That sounds to me like a very bad suggestion! I would go 81-82 MAX but why?
How long were you advised to keep this temperature?Why don't just wait it out?
Remove whatever you can daily, stay on top of your husbandry maintenance- and keep your nitrate and phosphate levels in check.Is it a new tank?

The current tank is set at 79, I have a UV & pump coming, and I'm battling O so the UV should work, I'm running a GAC reactor also, so raising the temp to 82 seems more doable, I know but the Dinos are not making the BTAs happy either. Yes, too cold for a bath but reasonably safe for a reef tank. Remember that O2 is less soluble in warmer water, so monitor for O2 stressed fish, and have plenty of surface movement.
