Hello fellow reefers,

My 3 year old son loves fish, especially clownfish and now wants a tank like daddy’s :)
Looking into setting up a Bta tank with a pair of clownfish.
What size tank do you recommend?

Thanks in advance

Dom

Great question and I think it is fantastic that he is interested in fish at that age! Personally, I would suggest that you start with the clown pair and wait on the BTA. IME, they do much better after the tank has matured for 6-12 months. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, yeah definitely going to let the tank mature before adding a Bta, never had a Bta before but like the idea of a Bta/clownfish tank so even though I’m setting it up for my son I’m excited too :) just not sure on best tank size.

I've got a bta and soon to be pair of clowns in a 30 gallon and they have never been to half of the tank so I'd say something like a 15-20 gallon would be good

For Perculas and Ocellaris clowns and a BTA then I would suggest a 20g or larger - you could have a smaller tank but water stability can become more of an issue. With larger clown species then I would suggest at least a 30g.
