BTA Anemone help, see pic from before and now

i got green bta in July 20th, 2 weeks later i got sherman bta, the tentacles getting thinner and thinner when days pass by, I check all water parameters and are in good shape. lighting tested a week ago with rented PAR meter from BRS and I see only 80-90 PAR where the nem is, I am in the process of increasing my kessil percentage slowly (it was a 38% intensity and 55%Color), but Is something else bothering BTA that it lost its shape. Is it somehow related to my GSP or 3 other Zoas not opening (or opening partially) at all.

Seems they are starving from lack of light. I would keep increasing slowly as you are.

thanks, weekly 5% increase is better or everyday 1 or 2% better?

looks like hes on the move possibly? sometimes nems just up and decided they want to move their home somewhere else lol i would just keep a good eye on it and make sure it dont wander into any bigger powerheads you may have, should find its new footing soon

Yes I keep watching them since i added, I placed them in the rock where more holes are there, it pretty much stayed in same place except on Sunday it moved 3" higher and back 1" lower and staying for now. Still directly under the light. Sometime i turn off the powerhead close to its side in the night

my guess is, it wasnt happy being that close to the green nem, pretty sure its fine just trying to find another home haha best of luck bro

Are either wild? I've read here on the forum where some types of BTA (I think the wild ones) will release chemicals into the water and basically fight the other nems. Not an expert by any means, but if you search the forum you find more info.

I have numerous nems (none wild) that coexist and if one is not happy with the flow, lighting, etc... it just moves.

My sherman moves constantly for some reason back and forth from the front of the tank to the back (on the same rock, same 2 spots) while my BTA pretty much stay put.

I think it is just acclimating still. Double check parr, and keep increasing but make sure your reading is good so you don’t fry anything.

I have made huge lighting changes and never lost anything though...... so I suggest increasing light in bigger increments

I not sure if its wild, i got them from a seller here in R2R, good rating and he still sells sherman in various sizes. My concern is if something lacking in my tank water other than light (which i found its too low, 80-90 par by apogee meter rented, i am in the process of increasing it) I wanted to try resolve it.

When i got the green nem I wanted a decent size so its not small for my clown so i got like 3+ inch size at manhattan reef, but as soon as i got and placed in the spot, it moved just few inches and stayed there and clown hosted right away, 2nd day i fed shrimp piece (1/2 inch size may be), next day it spilt. then I had two green nem next to each other, recently a week ago one green nem from split shrunk into penny size and moved all the way to the bottom of the rock hanging down (don't know why and not sure if i want to disturb them, or pull it out and keep it in a box for observation).

I had the BRS par meter rental for 7 days, with that days I had, I measured par and wrote down at different reading (where corals are currently and where i would want to place future corals). First i test with my current setting and documented it, next for temporarily i increased the intensity and color gradually to see until i reach 300+ par and documented the exact same spots again and documented it. To get to 300+ i had to set my both kessil intensity to 55% and color to 91%. So thats my aim to to reach that setting gradually.

I am no expert, and people will probably lose their mind over this, but I say 5% a day


If a storm rolls in for 2-3 days, then it is an insanely clear week...... The ocean does just fine.......

I'm not sure on your nem mine has been getting smaller I've had it since dec and I was huge, it eventually split about 2 months ago but it squashes right up and opens its mouth right up. It's been doing this for a month now.this was it about 1 month before it splt

and now a friend of mine shut his tank down last week and gave me what I thought was another small nem.

but its actually.

I'm thinking my 2 red ones are nor happy at all. Light or food I dont know.

I didnt feed them directly but I may start if they will accept food that is. There is another red one but the big green one has covered it and it's under the rocks and looking really bad. I'll just keep an eye on it.

So I have shermans, RBTA & CC Speckled BTA nems... the only time any of them shrink up like that, they are stressed due to low nutrients, low salinity, low alk, or just dirty water. One of my small tanks has some cyano and today I scrubbed the glass. My RBTA instantly closed & shrunk into its hole. I didn't see it for the rest of the day.

Have you tested your water? Alk, NO3, PO4, salinity, etc?

I have them in all levels of PAR and the only difference I see is the color... though I have noticed they look best & tend to move to areas of 200+ PAR.

I was running water change less system for a year, then some zoas started to loose its colors then its shrinking and closed for long and don't open, did ICP and it came up with i run low on nutrition and also found No3 and Po4 are zero not good for corals, started feeding more and dosed Red Sea Reef Energy AB and Coral Colors ABCD for sometime, did not help, did 20% water change, did not help, now that No3 is 5-10ppm and Po4 0.05 to 0.10, still did not help, water parameters are in range, Alk 8.5, Salinity 35ppt, Ca 500, Mg 1400. while researching some said to check for contamination, i did go thru the system and found skimmer pump with lot of rust in it, replaced new pump, added Poly filter pad to remove contamination, also ran chemiclean just last week and did 25% water change, still did not help as of today. final thing from recently researched thread that i know is to add iodine (Lugol) which i did yesterday 3 drops. so far no results and still breaking my head to resolve this situation. One things is for sure that something not right with my water that i can feel but can't pin point it. Another thing i found after doing PAR test that i have very low par on my tank and 80-90 range where the bta is, I am in the process of increasing it slowly.

Oh I also ordered Furan 2 which should be in my hand soon, I've feeling thats not going to help me either.

At this time i wish someone gives me a magic portion and i add one drop and everything blooms
