I recently purchased 2 Blue eyed Cardinal's (longspine cardinalfish) from an online retailer. I've had one for over a year and thought if I added a couple more they may school together. After acclimation they appeared to be fine. They were hovering around the bottom not too far from my BTA. Within a few minutes I noticed my existing Blue eye was swimming with them. Success!

I continued checking on them periodically and then saw one of them in the BTA on it's side. I tried to remove it as it was still alive. The BTA was clinging to the fish and the fish appeared to be stunned. A moment later, no gill movement, it drifted back into the BTA. It was quickly taken in by the BTA.

The remaining blue eye was then seen in the back of the tank swimming with my larger blue eye. I checked just a few minutes later and it was also BTA food. The first fish was gone and this one was on it's way.

The next day the BTA was full and very large. He looked pretty happy. It just ate 2-$20 fish. A day later, the BTA was completely deflated and the day after that falling apart. I netted the BTA and disposed of it. It was coming apart and leaving the water cloudy.

Gotta be more then a coincidence?!? First time I lost a fish to a BTA. I think....I have lost a few clown gobies in another tank with 2 BTA's. But I have not lost a BTA?

That is crazy frustrating. It would be one thing if the BTA had Been happy and full. But to eat itself to death is just dumb.
