Does this qualify as dead?
As I have been posting, it put itself in a cave with no lighting.
I saw it like this when I woke up so I took it out. Is it dead?
Do BTA release toxins?

Doesn't look dead to me, just closed up. How long has it been in the tank?

I don't think it's dead. Is it still sticky? It could just be balled up bc something aggravated it. Also, if it's new to the tank, then it could still be acclimating. Nems do funky things...wander in and out of rockwork, ball up, bubble up, stretch out, etc....all without any known reason.

2 weeks, looked great last night. has always been attached, moved 2 times. I have another post about it moving.
It moved into a cave the 2nd night and moved again from one spot of the cave to another but still in the cave with no light. this is the first time i saw it not attached to something. I was worried when it moved into the cave because of no light and i cant see it. I tried to feed it 2 times shrimp, basted into the cave but i cannot really see in there to know if it actually ate any.
Other post just kept telling me to leave it alone and today it looked like that.

Looks a little better, still worried about putting it back in...
I squirted some shrimp directly into the mouth.... Im worried....
Anyone???

I have it out of the tank, in a floating bin. It keeps changing, and with the mouth like that Im hesitant about putting it back in the tank....
it looks like it spit out all the shrimp in disgust....
Obviously Im worried and posting a bunch of times, sorry...

yeah so my BTA just kept turning inside out. Its mouth was about 1.5-2" and all the internals ( honey comb like ) were coming out....

Maybe i shouldve tried to persuade out of that cave so i could see it better..... :crossedlips:

You should have left it alone. It sounds like you are the biggest problem to that anemone. You should have given it 3-4 weeks before feeding it. You should have never forced food into the mouth. You might do a little research before you buy the next one to kill. They wont release toxins unless it gets chewed up or rots in the tank. Good luck.

I didnt force feed it, i basted shrimp into bin over the mouth.

By the way, people join forums and ask questions to do just that... Learn... just going to Google and typing a question in doesnt really answer much... just brings you to more and more forums...
you can obviously tell i was trying to get some direction, being that i posted a bunch of times over and over...
I intended on putting it back in and when i looked it at it again, it was really bad looking.

You are probably right, but i was worried and I learned from it. In my worried state it was better to lose $45 than thousands....
Again... i learned....

Leave it alone. Even if it crawls into a place with no light it'll come out when it wants to. If you've be removing it to take these pics it's probably REALLY stressed out from being handled.

I know it's hard to not try and encourage out livestock to eat and to leave them alone when we're concerned about their health. Anemones are especially weird creatures that inflate and deflate and move around until they find a place that fits their needs at that given time. Unfortunately, their final spot may not even be where we can see them which stinks! have you kept the nem or did you toss it?

its gone, im extremely upset about it. I am almost 100% sure it was dead when i did, all its insides came out.
I really want to keep one, but I may not know enough for one.
I hear how certain things are hard to keep, like Goniopora and Clams and I am doing great at those. 3 Goni, 3 Clams, I just got some Hammers and frogspawn and they are doing good too.
Unfortunately the BTA scared the crap out of me, I took it out and started this thread. It started to look better and i was going to put it back in, but then all its insides came out... I let it sit for a few hours total and with no change...
:-(

I noticed in your earlier post that you've learned from this and that's what this hobby is - a learning journey that lasts a life time. Don't beat urself up. In the future, just research each species well and ask on the forums for advice. I'd probably advise you to hold off on adding another anemone for a bit. How old is the tank?

this is my 3rd tank, 150 Gal with a Eshopps RS200 sump, been up for 6 months, i transferred my fish, rocks and 1 clam from my 95 gal that was up for a year, before that was a 35 gal hex.
1st nem, and i thought it was soo cool, colors and the fact that they are more involved than coral, but scared about their potential for destruction.
I did leave leave it alone like you told me, until i saw it balled up in the cave just sitting in the sand.
