I received a green BTA shipped overnight and it was as I expected really shrunken and small. First anemone I had shipped so wasn't sure but after a few hours it already started opening up and moved down so it's foot was in a small crevice.
Just received another BTA today and this one was already fully open and after floating the bag and transferring it to drip acclimate, it didn't even pull back from my touch or move at all. Not a great picture, but shock from shipping wouldn't do this, would it?

That's what I'm asking, but the tentacles not pulling back when I picked it up to transfer from the bag to container to drip acclimate it? I thought it would shrink up, actually thought it would be pulled in while in the bag.

Well, it's definitely not dead. Almost every coral I've received and the other BTA were very closed up when they got here. This BTA was fully open in the bag and like I said, didn't move or close up at all when I picked it up out of the bag and moved it to the acclimation container. I went ahead and acclimated and the tentacles were still inflated somewhat, so I put it in the tank. About 15 minutes later it did close up a little when my cleaner shrimp brushed up against it. Hopefully it will pull through. It's not blowing around the tank so it's foot must have grabbed onto the rock. We'll see in the morning when the lights come back on. Fingers crossed.

A health nem will attach its foot and have sticky tentacles. Closing up isn’t really what nem’s do. Now if it’s tentacles are all string, limp, and it’s blowing around the tank shriveled and falling part, then it’s dead.

The green BTA was almost fully closed up when it arrived, and a friend has several and they'll close up or pull back if he brushes against them when he feeds them. I just thought they acted like corals do when threatened.

A smell test is a good way to tell...a dead or dying bta will stink your fingers right up too and you will have to scrub and scrub to get that smell off!
