Hello...
I purchased a BTA about two weeks ago. Everything going well up until last night. I placed it on a rock where it took immediately and stayed for two weeks until last night. As the lights dimmed, I watched it detach and fall inside the hole in the rock. When I started looking for it, I couldn't find it inside the rock. Now the issue is the rock supports my entire reef structure, so I can't remove.

1. will the BTA eventually come out on it's own? How do I help the situation? Move a power head over the rock to increase flow in that area?

2. In the event it never comes out and dies, how much ammonia and toxins will a (dime sized when shrunk down) it extract into the water? How long will it take to die so I can start testing for ammonia and do daily WC's?

Params
CA - 420
Salinity - 1.025
Alk - 9
Mag - 1400
Nitrates - 5ppm
Phosphate - .075ppm
PH - 8.15

Well, it can go where it wants or needs obviously, but I'm wondering why it would detach after 2 weeks.

How long has your tank been running?
Did you acclimate to new lights?
Was nem in good health/not bleached?
Post pics if you can

Chances are that if it dont like where it's at it will move. I've seen them in some tight places and figure how to get out when the ready.

Can you see it in the hole?

Thanks for the reply, here's my answers to the questions...

How long has your tank been running?
Up for seven months now
Did you acclimate to new lights?
Yes, have two AI primes, turned on acclimation starting at 60% for a month
Was nem in good health/not bleached?
Yes, showing good color, and I don't have any pics.
Post pics if you can

I'm thinking maybe after I cleaned the power head, I didn't put it back in the exact location possibly changing the water flow.

Thanks for the reply. No I can't, it's literally a black hole. I lost an acan that detached from the rock and fell down this hole.

Well yes for the acan itd be a loss if you cant get it. Fortunately nems can move around at will when they release and get blown around. How big is the tank because it might be worth the trouble to move the rock or cover the hole or flip the rock over.

the tanks 40 gal and the rock supports a floating reef structure, so there's no way I can get the rock out. I will allow the nem to come out on it's own. In the event it never returns, how much ammonia and toxins would a dime sized nem produce? Would it be enough to nuke my tank?

No one can say what level of amo may be released w/ any real certainty, just prepare for good size WC if you can't retrieve it on your own or get to it as it perishes.

I would still be looking at why it detached, reason for my previous questions

I have no idea why it detached. From my responses to your original questions, the only two possibilities I can think of are:
1. When I did the WC and cleaned the power head, I didn't put it back in the exact location changing the flow a bit.
2. Maybe I setup too long of an acclimation period on the lights. I set them to a month acclimation starting at 60% and still have two weeks remaining. So maybe it was in search of more light after finally acclimating to the conditions.

IDK, but very much appreciate the help figuring this out.
