My BTA got ducked into my powered last night....completely mangled, water is a little cloudy and corals don't look great..

I added more carbon, and will do a 30% water change once the tap water heats up.

Anything else I can do?

Don’t run lights on high, all insults are better re ramped for sure. Bleach reduction

cut intensity about half

considering the money spent on the system of that size id buy or borrow another canister filter somehow to pack with more carbon, and change out the media after a few hours running don’t leave the initial batch in line.

i leave my lights off on insult days too occasionally. Recent one was me forgetting to plug in heater after water change, darn cold reef corals mad two hours later, no light day. Sun only comes up to drive machinery on nice days.

Transfer powerhead to a container and removed mangled BTA- not in the tank to reduce cloudiness and odors.
Siphon tank of all and any particles from BTA and add Chemipure blue to the sump which will polish the water and reduce any chances of toxins. If you have filter socks, they will help in trapping fine particles from the nem.
You could also run to Wmart and get a cheap habg on pwer filter which will help polish ater and entrap and material from the nem and it also has carbon in the cartridges.

I have a canister....good idea

surgically remove any adhered shredded feet from it etc, siphon up bits if possible I’m sure you already have done that or are about to with the water change

Good news is someone has another BTA for me so assuming my tank makes it through this, my clowns will have a home again

I can’t think of anything better than carbon for the compounds in suspension maybe team will add more options, wonder if changing skimming to very wet vs dry will help?

side note: am willing to bet you had no trouble cycling this tank :)

Went ahead and added polyfilter....also have lots of carbon running....

Should I still do the water change with tap water?

Yes, nice job team

reef rescue 911 in place make this a podcast $ retire early. Tanks in distress switch over zoom live, we give them the ringers and the paddles remotely and track outcomes
