I got a emerald on fire BTA and my clown has finally discovered it.  However, everytime the BTA opens up the clown nips at it and looks like he is trying to host it but the BTA shrivels up into the rocks.  Is this normal?  Thanks guys!

I've never heard of an emerald on fire BTA - sounds beautiful! it's normal for nems to expand and shrink - it should eventually open up and stay open with the clown in it. how long have you had the bta?

Ya, I just never actually had a clown pair up with a nem that was bought seperately. Pretty neat to watch. The emerald on fire I got from reefgardner.net. Its absolutely one of the coolest nems I have seen.

I had a similar problem when I had a smaller anemone with a large pair of clarkiis. I got a large rose and only have one clarkii now, it doesn't appear to be bothered by the clownfish at all. Is it possible your clownfish is smothering the anemone? That was my problem with two clowns and a smaller anemone. They never gave it space. Hope this helps a little bit. I don't know if you are experiencing same thing or not. Merry Christmas.

Not smothering it. Just nipping at the tentacles. It's like he doesn't know what to do with it. I guess they will figure it out eventually. Merry Christmas!
