Bought this BTA from the lfs 2 weeks ago, thought it had an interesting shape, heartlike as opposed to round. But there is a section of missing tentacles and outer disc edge. It seems to be either 1) deformed, 2) had a chunk bitten off and healed, or 3) stopped mid-split and healed. He seems to hold this section over his mouth. Any input from the community? And who knows what type of bta this is? Photo is in daylight mode to show actual color.

Looks like an injury in the process of healing. Injuries like this are common when anemones get sucked into a powerhead. Keep it happy and it should heal just fine. When conditions are good and they are happy they heal surprisingly fast.

Agreed. It's definitely unusual, he almost looks like Siamese twins. Additional info: He also had/has some small tears on his foot which are healing. (He had gotten stuck in chaeto at the lfs, as it worked itself off it exposed damage.) Portions of his foot are not sticky but he has half-attached to a small live rock. I have him + rock 'fenced off' as my clowns were initially overloving him. He has access to, but has not attempted to, leave this safe zone. Been target feeding ReefRoids which he seems to love. Won't take brine or mysis yet. Seems a tiny bit stronger every day. What are your recommendations? Anything else I can do to help him? What time frame does tissue damage typically heal in your experience?

I’d refrain from feeding any meaty food till totally healed. It seems like the additional energy needed to digest meaty food slows healing. I’d guess a month or six weeks to heal. Keep adequate flow and light and it will be fine.
