No bragging just pleased with this result. Over maybe 7 years I have had about 7 or 8 BTAs ...some early ones started snow white with purple tips,( pre bleached for novices) some started green. They have all suffered bleaching to a bright white with purple tips usually within a few days. I have never had one recover until now and have never been able to identify how I am causing the bleaching.
My latest one followed the usual path... bubble tips went, colour went. About 6 weeks of white... still taking food. .. feeding Atlantic Salmon pieces. Last week I noticed a couple of tentacles brownish in amongst the white... and then a few more. Now it is fully brown with some beautiful fluoro green on the tentacles as well.
So I have had one recover.??.. I dont know why, my parameters have always been pretty good. The only thing I am doing at all differently to the first 7 years is I am running my Alk a little higher than usual to help me keep pH up. My Alk is about 3.6 meq/l , pH about 8.0, sometimes 7.9.
The only thing changed directly affecting the Anemone is the switch from any old white fish flesh to atlantic salmon....this one obviously likes it but it would be a stretch to attribute the recovery to that. Oh well...whatever..! I am not complaining.
ps... one thing I have managed particularly badly is that I have often had clowns too big for the anemone and I suspect thata big clown can stress them into dying. Funnily enough I now have two Barrier Reef Clowns and the bigger of the two wont leave this recovering anemone alone.... so that doesnt seem to be a factor in this case at least
