What on Earth.

how do I get this weirdo off the hermit shell? I’ve tried very gently easing a fingernail under the foot but it’s holding tight. All the while the hermit is trying to pinch me and the evil occellaris is biting me. Which is fine, but not all that helpful. Now the nem is rather mad at me too — all shrunken.

My only idea at this point is to put the crab and his friend into a glass bowl in the tank and wait.

the crab crawling around the sand bed isn’t making that nem any happier.

Well, that's something you don't see everyday. Does the nem seem happy riding around the tank? I would think that at some point he will bail out.

get a cup of tank water and do it outside of tank so you don't get bitten. just continuously use your finger on an edge of the foot. Once you get the tiniest piece of his foot lifted you'll get him. Just have to be patient and continue to rub his foot

Remove hermit from water and hold over a dish of water letting the nem slightly touch it. The nem will stretch to the water and then release from the shell and plop into the water.

I got mine from aquarium depot. The hermit gets protection and the anemone gets food.
