Hello I have a question about BTAs. I recently got this one (about 2 and a half weeks ago) and at night sometimes it shrivels up to about the size of a half dollar while it’s normally about 3 and a half inches in diameter. I have found that it also does this about 8 or so hours after I feed it. I’m really only experienced with mini carpet anems, so I’m not sure if this is a normal thing for them to do. Tank is about 2 and a half years old, salinity is 34 ppt (1.0255 specific gravity), ph is 8.4, and nitrites and nitrates are as close to 0 as physically possible and all the fish leave it alone (especially the clowns, much to my dismay). I’ve read that they do this or something similar when getting rid of waste, sick/dying, or splitting. Does anyone know what is happening to it?

That’s fine. Mine shrivels up every night but is back at it after the lights come back on. As long as it’s not showing serious signs of diseases such as gaping mouth, I’d say it’s just bein a nem. :) pic of my big girl

I started noticing the same thing happening with mine 2 weeks ago. They both moved and I don't see them anywhere. I hope they didn't die.

Wow that one is beautiful! Thank you.

Mine does this after feeding and I figure it’s to hold the food in place / eat it

Also lights out makes sense to me as it’s not reaching for light/ trying to make its tentacles reach out to grab more light

Every day when lights are on it opens back up again

Now if lights are on and you haven’t fed it might just be upset

If you notice an elongated open mouth then I would worry

Yes, that is normal when the lights are out and after feeding. It even happens to my 10 inch anemone!
