I just got an anemone yesterday. Today it was doing fine and inflated very well. Tonight it started spewing white stuff and has deflated considerably. I've read online that's it's spawning. Just wondering if it's the case. I've also read that I should do a water change but at the moment I don't have any RO water so would using tap water be ok or could or wait an extra day?

It's probably excreting waste which is expected. Not sure they spawn this way, can anyone else chime in? To my knowledge they only reproduce by splitting. Are your parameters on point? How old is your system? If it is in fact excreting waste, a water change is not necessary. I wouldn't use tap water for your water change, always RODI.

My system is still young for an anemone, almost 3 months. Someone in town was closing their tank and I went to pick up some live rocks and corals and ended up having a great deal for the anemone. My parameters were pretty normal last night, cal 440, ph 8.0, amonia and nitrite 0,nitrate around 30. My wife sent me a picture of it earlier which appears to be starting to split ( the person I bought it from mentioned that it looked like it would do so in the near future).

They will split under stress. Your nitrates are on the high side IMO. Whats your ALK? ALK is far more important than your CA in regards to a nem. IMO a 3 month old system is too young for a nem, I tried at 4 months with failure, rule of thumb is 6, but this obviously varies.

I got my Rainbow Bubble tip anemone when my tank was 3 months old. It split at 4 months and now the tank is 5 months old.

I don't have an Alk test kit. Been looking around town but they didn't have any in stock. I was scheduling a WC this weekend just had to get some RO water today. I know 3 months is early for a nem but I figured I'd try it and keep a close eye on it and if it didn't do well look into relocating it to someone else.

Beautiful nem. I find that mine looks better in my tank than the one I got it from, so hopefully I can get lucky like you.

I'd definitely test your ALK and go from there.
